Good news for motorists - Chonburi motorway and Kanchanaphisek ring road toll free for a week at New Year

BANGKOK: -- It has been announced that both the Bangkok - Chonburi motorway and the Kanchanaphisek ring road from Bang Pa-In to Bang Plee will be toll free during the New Year holidays. These are routes 7 and 9 respectively.

Both roads will enjoy free passage from 12.01am on December 29th until midnight on the 4th of January.

This is a frequent measure at New Year to help ease traffic at the toll booths during the busy holiday period and also acts as a goodwill gesture to celebrate the holidays. Toll collectors can also enjoy a good rest.

Consideration is also being given to stopping tolls for the same period on the Bang Na to Chonburi elevated road.

LOL, yes that's "Good News".   Save a couple baht but get to enjoy a traffic jam all the way to Pattaya.

If someone can afford to drive a vehicle to the Eastern Seaboard then they can also afford a couple baht in tolls.

Please let me pay the damned 70 baht and get me a reasonably motorable road.

BTW: if this means that the tool booth staffers get a nice holiday break then that would be something..  Or would there be someone in charge so incredibly smashed out of daily reality that this doesn't occur at all, and people have to go sit there and take in the fumes regardless?

Upping the trolliness a bit

It's not the money, it's the lovely feeling of driving through the open gate 120kph.

And this is "good news for motorists" how?  Aren't motorcycles banned from the tollway anyway, regardless of toll gates open or not?
