BANGKOK:-- The government will be progressing ahead in developing a comprehensive air transportation system with the speeding of all infrastructural investments to facilitate these developments, it was disclosed yesterday by the Ministry of Transport.

According to the deputy permanent-secretary of the Ministry of Transport Mr Darun Saengchai, also acting director-general of the Department of Airport, plans to make improvements on all 28 airports in the country have been endorsed by the government.

In respond to the improvements he said the Ministry of Transport has been handed the important task of coming up with a viable strategic and practical plan for 2017.

The Ministry of Transport has tasked the Department of Airport with the responsibility of carrying out a study to ascertain the growth in airline passenger traffic at existing national airports so that a comprehensive plan can be created for establishing new airports to accommodate future growth.

Why don't these airports meet international standards NOW?

Probably because they have always believed the Thai "wing and a prayer" safety standards plus a few amulets was OK.

In fact I have often wondered if Thai pilots hang a jumble of amulets on their cockpit windsreens.

Anyway they need many more airports to cope with the gazillions of extra tourists who will be arriving according to the forecasts of TAT.

Meanwhile more aircraft are landing at CNX from ASEAN countries. The baggage carousels are working overtime as there is not enough baggage handlers. And the car park outside unchanged in over 10 years is overfull. With double parking Thai style people are struggling to drive around to find a parking space and are in competition with foot traffic of passengers with luggage trolleys.

Why concentrate on parking of cars? Improving public transport should be the aim. Cannot imagine the same number of cars jamming the city streets...

" The Ministry of Transport has tasked the Department of Airport with the responsibility of carrying out a study to ascertain the growth in airline passenger traffic at existing national airports so that a comprehensive plan can be created  "

so are they going to form a committee to do a lot of mulling followed by some urging, predicting and encouraging?  They will need to visit a lot of airports in other countries in order to carry out the study, and then they will be able to confirm what they already know. Perfect.

Music to my ears. I did not know we were in arrears. Can we take this to the bank?? Never fear the funds are here.
