My wife, daughter and I, all entered Thailand, from the US, for a month long vacation this week.  We all used our Thai passports.  We didn't realize until it was too late that my daughter's passport had been expired for several months.  So, she entered on her expired Thai passport without issue.  We were going to begin the process of getting her a new passport this week but realized that we do not have her Thai birth certificate issued from the Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles.  I do have access to copies though.  She is registered at the amphur back in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

My question, what documents are required for my daughter to renew her passport --She is a minor child 5 years old if that makes a difference.

Thank you

Is a certified copy of a birth certificate something that can be obtained at the Ampur?  Or, is that something that we have to get from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office?

It is done at the Amphoe. You  take a copy to them and they will verify it is true and correct before certifying it.

Was she in the US on a visa in her Thai passport and exited the country using an expired passport or does she also have a US passport? If she was using a Thai passport to exit the US, it seems odd that they didn't notice it was expired.

A person could be on permanent residency and not need a valid passport to stay in the states.

On checkin for the flight they can check the IATA database and see that a Thai can enter with an expired passport.

No immigration check on departure from the states.

My daughter had a  Thai passport  up till she was 5 years old. Her Thai mother left when she was 1 year old. I have tried to get her a new Thai passport in BKK, but they said no she has to have her mother come and show ID and sign. Her Thai mums wherabouts is unknown, so not much use. What i want to know is can my daughter enter Thailand on her old passport even though it expired a long time ago? She entered la year ago on her British passport but its a pain to keep taking her on visa runs every 3 months and expensive. She has a Thai birth certificate form the British consulate but is not on any house registration book as i rent my house. It  goes without saying that I live with my daughter,  but  not her mother. I used to be able to get an O visa for having a Thai child. But they stopped it about 4 years ago when they saw  the copy of her mothers ID was out of date. Any ideas?

You should file for divorce for abandonment and get full custody of your child. Then you could sign the consent as the sole parent.

From the list of requirements for a passport here. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

Quote
  • If the applicant’s parents were divorced or did not live together, a parent who is present to sign the parental consent form will need to bring the memorandum of divorce
proving sole custody of the appearing parent.

She can be entered in any house book. It could be a friends or family members house book that agrees to her being listed in it.

Since you have her Thai birth certificate you could get her a one year extension at immigration as a returning Thai national.

She could enter on her expired Thai passport. She could fly out using her UK passport and return using her Thai passport.

UbonJoe I love your knowledge and your answers. Where or are you a lawyer? Or just a student of Thai Immigration and laws? And if it none of business, please tell me. Just fascinated with all the stuff you come up with.

None of those really. Perhaps close to student but mostly from many years on this forum and some research when the odd problem comes up.

Lots of bookmarks for sources of information to.

Yes you can get is a 60 day extension. Your child will need to be with you when you apply.

You will need their birth certificate plus a copy and their house book registry.
