TAT predicts 5.5 billion baht revenue from 370,000 tourist arrivals during New Year’s festival

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Tourism Authority has forecast that 370,000 foreign tourists will visit Thailand during the New Year’s festival between December 31-January 3, generating revenue estimated at 5.5 billion baht.

TAT governor Yutthasak Supasorn said that the forecast of tourist arrivals and their estimated spendings are based on bookings of 65 chartered flights with over 16,300 seats.

The 65 chartered flights are divided into 39 flights to Bangkok, 23 flights to Phuket and three flights to Chiang Mai from 11 countries.

Bookings from China, Russia and Japan increased by three percent.

On top of that, there are additional 25 flights per week which were launched by foreign airlines since December 1. These include Thai Smile’s three return flights on Laknao-Bangkok route launched since Dec 1 and Thai Air Asia’s 7 flights per week on Don Meuang-Calcutta route launched since Dec 16.

Interesting, 370,000 foreign  tourists in 65,000 seats?

Will the overflow come in the cargo hold?

Blue skies from here on in courtesy of TAT.  History will tell the true story.

But TAT will likely be writing the history!

Sorry, projected Chinese visits up by 3% for New Year but visits for November down by 30%. So presumably we're not talking year on year figures. In fact the source article itself is contradictory. talking about an increase in one para. then a drop in another.

How nice that every visitor will spend THB 16'176.47 - must be quite a rip off it seems

TAT's optimism shows no bounds, as usual!

Yes they seem to have it figured right down to the satang. Do they hand out a questionaire at the airport asking "How much do you intend to spend on your vacation?" Its truly amazing how tourism floats their boat. The Holy Grail of Thailand

It's the reason I came to Thailand. Certainly didn't come to do business. The TAT mixes business with pleasure. Now days you've got a lot of negative media in the news. Back then the only negative sex stories were old men losing their savings to young bar girls. Nowadays though it's horror stories of rape, murder and suicide. Yes, it must have been going on for years but at the moment it's a regular news story in foreign press. I'm amazed Thailand tourism is on the up. Maybe China doesn't report these stories in it's media? Still if you look at the state of the Philippines at the moment then maybe Thailand is a safer option.

If your going to the Philippines stay safe. I heard the president there takes drugs as well for his headaches. I guess they are caused by having a hard time choosing whether to leave the American orbit and enter the Sino-Soviet one. He seems to be like the Sugar Plum Fairy at the moment tip toeing back and forth.

Yes he might be nut's but you just pointed out that he likes the Russian's and Chinese and not the USA. So does Thailand. They are now the main countries that come on holiday here. The Sino-Soviets have got money to spend. The USA tourists are maybe dwindling.

Not to worry the Donald will make "America Great" again next year. The interest rates will stay low and the banks are sloshing money wall to wall. Your friendly banker awaits you at the front door with a firm handshake and a loan form and a pen in hand. The US tourist will be good to go next year. Fly now pay later. How would we survive without it or is it don't leave home without it??

If (as stated today here on TV) the Chinese 'Zero dollar' tourist numbers are down for the 3rd consecutive month, then which nation is making up the projected figure for N.Yr tourists..?

Who are coming to a nation which I thought was not going to have any major festivities over N.Yr as it was still in mourning..??

I have not seen verymany tourists in  Bangkok or Pattaya this season.  Thee are still plenty of hotel rooms available in both locations. Thailand is not a prime destination any longer due to bad publicity and higher prices. Americans have not been travelling anywhere recently. They are too busy trying to find work and if they have it keeping a job.

The Chinese are not coming because of the zero money tour situation and the Russians because the ruble doesn't go very far.

In addition, those long term tourists who have money and come many times are being hassled at land borders and the airports. Instead of being welcomed with open arms- they are having their passports over scrutinized and being harassed. These people are looking at more friendly destinations.

STOP, STOP, STOP!!!!!   You are making things way to complicated and also remember that November is already over.

The only thing you need to know is that things are going UP and could never be better... :-) ... and don't forget to be happy and smile too. Everybody in the tourist business are making huge money right now.

Guessing you did not read the article and have therefore totally misunderstood the facts. :-)

Yeah, they will all come to join the festivities and the parties and the fireworks...oh...wait...

Yes exactly. TAT have predicted a raging success yet we know just how much everything, and that includes Kao San Road, will be toned down if not cancelled completely so when their figures fall flat I'll bet there's no announcement to that effect.

One media release using the words fall and drop is an absolute shock but two announcements, no no I can't handle this !

TAT predicts, should read TAT  HOPES to have 370,000 visitors.

Not that much at 30euro per day for a 2 week holiday,

We've heard it all before from those clowns. They couldn't predict the winner of a one horse race.

Average stay is 4.4 days being the New Year break - according to TAT. Som Tam prices went up it seems - all explained then ;-)

Another day, another TAT announcement.

One day it's doom and gloom, Chinese tourist numbers plummet. Next day tourists banging on the door to get in.

After a while you just get used to sitting back watching the spectacle unfold.

Who knows what the real truth is, or will be This is a country corrupt to it's core that would lie through it's teeth to make up anything that makes itself look good
