BANGKOK: -- MORE THAN 100,000 policemen will provide security during the New Year Festival from December 31 to January 3, authorities said yesterday.

However, national police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda said intelligence agencies were not aware of any groups planning attacks during the period.

The officers will join Army personnel and administrative officials to staff checkpoints, patrol high-risk locations nationwide and form rapid-response units.

Chakthip held a two-hour video conference with provincial police chiefs from regions 1 to 9 and officials from the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre.

Police to field hundreds of thousands of officers in tight shirts, which for some is quite an effort, for the New Year holiday.

Fixed it.

"...Police to field hundreds of thousands of officers in tight security effort for New Year holiday..."

Wow, that is truly an impressive and attention-grabbing headline. Only problem is that, according to INTERPOL (https://is.gd/0XpSrb), the strength of the RTP is around 230,000 souls.

Regardless of how many cops they manage to field, you can be sure we'll still have a lot of them just standing around like entombed worriers waiting for anything that "intelligence agencies were not aware of" during the Christmas period.

Only during the New Year festival? What about Christmas? Whose going to protect Santa and his sleigh?

Christmas is not officially recognized on the Thai calendar as it's a normal working day.

All this sounds reasonable to have police on duty and at the ready. Monthly envelope insurance collections don't just stop beause of New Year holidays

Could easily substitute monkeys or chickens and probably expect a better outcome....

:passifier: As I believe I still have followers, I'd have my post deleted and a likely sentence if I posted that. :whistling:

I will, however, say that it would be akin to putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

So there is going to be visible policing, according to this report,

but where do they all go on a normal day of the week,it's the same

when there is a VIP in the area, all junctions, soi's, are blocked by a

policeman,to facilitate the unhindered passage of the motorcade,

when it has passed, they melt back to where they came from, and

you will be lucky,or unlucky (depends what you up to),to see one

again.

Typically Sunday is not a day of work.

If I was a terrorist I would do something leading up to New Year's Eve,it would have more of an impact than on the day.spreading terror is the whole point of terrorism.anyway who in their right minds would let these buffoons look after their security.i actually feel very uneasy when I have Thai around me with a loaded gun(policeman).
