Reading the lengthy news from the link first given  might answer this.   YES.

Everything regarding laws in Thailand is just guidelines including a death sentence......

Because of the fact that they (the mother of the wife and the wife herself) tried to cover their tracks in order to still be 'family members' of the abuser's wealthy family  (less the abuser of course)      That in my opinion is murder and not self defense.    The wife could have easily gone the self defense route (but that would also mean having to go back to being plain middle class)...  but chose the conspiracy/hiring of an assasin route.   IMO all five parties (the abuser if he was still alive, the assasin, the wife, the mother in law, and the attorney who hired the assasin on behalf of the wife) involved deserve to be in cages.

On death row and out on bail.  You also have the 3 thai police officers who were given the death sentence in 2012 and then granted bail.  They are still happily going about thier lives on the outside.  It appears it has all been forgotten about.

Do Thai courts, or whatever it is they call them issue a guilty/innocent verdict then do the sentencing later?  That is common in the USA. Verdict and sentencing can be done very separately

Mars ,yes absolutely correct that's where we are.

Having read how she was treated by her husband I do feel some sympathy for her, he was a nutter.

She may get off on grounds of cruelty, I am not surprised if many more cases like this come up as some women are treated very cruelly here.

Absolutely, killing her abuser was not enough; this was more than simple self defense.  She needed to extract further payment to even the ledger.  

 

Guys from money aren't invincible after all, I guess - even in Thailand - especially where a beautiful woman is involved.

Any updates to this one??  Many have said a smart, pretty professional Dr would never be put to death, has it happened, or did she do a runner as lots of people have speculated.

"she represented no risk of flight". ... I think the authorities think this means there has to be an actual risk she'll get on an airline to leave the country, but since she'll prob be hidden in the back of a truck then why deny bail?
