Video: Thai student draws praise after helping injured dog at Songkhla intersection

SONGKHLA: -- A Thai student in school uniform has drawn praise from the Thai public after CCTV showed her helping a fatally injured dog at a busy intersection in the south of Thailand.

After the dog was hit - with the driver speeding off - many other people on bikes and in cars ignore the injured animal's obvious plight, reports Thairath.

After a full two minutes the female Thai student who saw the dog's distress walks into the middle of the Sao See crossroads to see what she can do. Then she cradles the poor animal in her arms and takes it to the side of the road.

The touching footage from Monday evening was posted on Facebook by local government officer Natthakorn Chituang and was viewed more than half a million times.

Everyone online was impressed with the girl's kind actions while many criticized the car for not stopping and the attitude of others in the vicinity.

But later the girl revealed in chat that the dog had died at the vet's. "I tried my best to help a life," she said modestly.

Interesting to see that they treat the dogs they run over the same as the people.

Driving too fast as always...

Good on you, Doll....at least you tried to help. Full marks from me.

Viewed more than half a million times in Facebook. Seems a lot and quite unusual and I was to surprised by what people watch on Facebook as I personally don't use it.
Well one day I was watching my wife use Facebook and believe me its an eye opener. All the news stories and social media trending stories are plastered minute by minute with the ding dong chime going off all the time. It's wall to wall gossip. She's liking videos chatting, sharing, etc. You think that we are Thai news obsessives check out your missus Facebook. Unbelievable. She knows more of what's going on than me!

Kudos to this brave young girl for showing some humanity.

Brave girl – and so sad to see how many that don't care at all...

A well-intentioned, though very foolish, girl.  She put herself, and others, in danger in the middle of a busy intersection with traffic bearing down on her for the sake of a dog.

Edited by gdgbb

If that happened in my own home country, people would have come running from all directions to help that unfortunate animal. Vehicles would have stopped in order to not endanger the rescuers. And the story would not even made it on the news.

Here, a brave young girl is making headlines for doing the only decent thing and for displaying one of the best qualities supposedly inherent in all human beings, empathy. What a sad testimony once again for this so-called "Buddhist" country where evidently only a small fraction of people are capable of feeling pity. Much too busy with their inflated own egos and messed-up lives.

Good job, young girl! I wish there were more like you.

For the sake of a dog eh? Geez you make it sound like it was some disease carrying vermin or something.

Take it ur not a dog person, or an animal person for that matter.

Me too. A future politician in the making. Compassion for people a must with a dab of trust.

Presumably not Germany were it is illegal to brake for a dog. Fine country.

Buddha will smile upon her.

She is lucky the dog wasn't rabid.

And if that dog caused an accident while running on a busy road? Would it be a bad dog in that case? And where is the owner of this dog? Will he pay for the damage to the vehicle which hit it?

The owner of the dog is busy swearing blind he has never set eyes on that animal before.

So touching, I salute this girl for her loving heart...but as a parent I would instruct my children never to do such a thing. She endangered her own life, and the dog lost its life anyway.

Yes, in Thailand?

No wonder it's news.

Yes, it did. But how was she to know before she tried to help it....It's called compassion, sadly unknown to too many..

As in any rescue situation, protect yourself first - as you are of no value to anyone if you're  dead.

Yes, the young lady was a little foolish - but - I take my hat off to her, well done.

Can hardly blame the vehicle when a stray dog (in the middle of the highway) gets hit. Blame the 'government' if anything for not controlling them. But, yes, big thumbs up to the girl for having the brains, balls and empathy.

You'd be daft to bet against that being the case!

You're right with your observation, I am not a dog person, I'm a human being and, apart from working dogs, I see them all as a pain in the arse and a pointless liability, ably demonstrated by this one.

Just shows one of the differences between most Americans and some of the brits. Assuming ur English because of ur wording.

The story in the OP wouldn't even be news worthy as people would be stopping in their cars, calling animal control, basically freaking out over a dog getting battered on the road. The sheer fact of an animal suffering on the road is heart wrenching to us, regardless of wether or not it was a stray or whatever. Not saying bad shit does not happen, but you wouldn't be very popular with those views.

I can see you guys view things differently... I assume its due to your nanny state and non-exposure to wildlife & animals.

Foolish to those who do not understand the concepts of; principle, or of sincerity in their philosophical beliefs/religion, or of courage or of compassion.  Perhaps integrity, bravery and principle are characteristics  of which you are without, but for many of us  it is something we have and respect in others.

There are many people  in TVF, including myself, who have put themselves in harm's way for both human and animal and have no regrets. And therein lies the fundamental difference between critics like you and this brave young woman: She would have done the same for a human. It is doubtful that you, the critic, would have done anything for a human. I suppose there will be some people who will feel  inadequate because  of this person's heroism, but I suppose that's the cross mean spirited inherent cowards carry. The appropriate response is to show some respect for a hero willing to do the right thing. I have nothing but admiration and praise for her and will contribute to a scholarship fund once a decent Thai sets it up.

You're right again, I'm a  Briton and i assume that "ur" a yank because of "ur' wording.   I'm happy to say that I don't express my views in order to gain popularity, what would be a greater waste of time than that?

I haven't lived in Britain for 22 years so your derisory tone towards the country with the reference to a nanny state doesn't bother me but it is a bit rich from a yank considering that nanny states don't come much more nany-ish than the US!

Thats cool. Say what you want. Im not here to change ur mind. Im on a tablet so "ur" is easier, but if it makes you feel better - attack away.

Im expressing my view because I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I could not care less about popularity.

Other than just trying to be insulting, I think you would be surprised what the average american is allowed to do legally compared to England. Im sure you will take that statement and roll with it, but far and away, you guys are nannied Vs US.

Anyway getting off topic. We are different. I don't agree with you at all. Thats it. I think culturally there are differences that are pointless to debate. No reason to get derogatory.
