Funny how a story about 5 people arrested, one being African, at least one being Thai (possibly two) and 2 or 3 we don't know about leads to the usual stream of abuse being poured upon Africans (and a geography lesson argument, I don't think it is West Africa or at least wasn't considered so when I lived in Ghana).

 

I do hope Santa has some "less knee jerk reaction formula" in his sack for some this year.

Yes plenty of criminals here who aren't from Africa. But Africans make up by far the largest percentage of the foreign prisoners in Thai jail. When you consider that African arrivals in Thailand are tiny. The fact that they are so massively over represented in the penal system has to say something about the reasons they are here. Of course it could be that the Thai police just pick on poor innocent black people. Just like in the UK, US and Australia where they also make up a huge percentage of the prison population... Coincidence ?

Black Americans are incarcerated in the States at far higher rates than they are represented in the general population; however, some say many of those are in jail simply because they are black. Just like so many here on TV have said about the Thais blaming the Burmese for crimes.

 

However, I simply wanted to point-out that Africans are not the only low-lifes here.

context my friend. poverty gets sh*t done. it's easy for us whities to blame the black man who was born in some poor failed state on the african continent. i tend to focuss on my own LUCK being born in a rich western country with superior FREE education in stead of blaming the no-have's of this world. not saying criminality is "acceptable" but there is always a context. i also think the fact that the africans can't bribe themselves out (of jail) NOR does their embassy care about them being jailed might explain why there are plenty in thai jails.
