BANGKOK: -- Five suspects including a Cameroonian national were arrested in Bangkok yesterday after a month long investigation to capture a gang printing fake US banknotes.

The arrests followed work by the crime suppression division who struck a clandestine deal with the gang in November to buy 10,000 100 dollar bills, reports Thai News Agency.

Yesterday they arrested a Thai woman in Bangkapi in the car park of a shopping mall. She had a sample of the order hidden in a whisky carton.

Three others were arrested at nearby Town in Town. The suspected ringleader Natchapatraphong Yaempradit was arrested at a hotel car park in the Town in Town area off Lat Prao. He had a quantity of fake bills.

In total police took into evidence fake currency worth 5 million baht.

It is when it's passed on.  Luckily now it's in the hands of the police this can't happen.  Can it?

apart from west africans scamming on email , this is just a sideline , i met 2 people from west africa in north thailand they tried the old ink evaporating bank note trick , i went to a room with them as they said do you want to make 1 million us dollars , they brought out a note that did not look like a bank note they put this suppose magic ink on it and it changed into a 5 us dollar note , i said thats fantastic they said we have 200,000 of these in a safe in bangkok i said ok they said we just want 100,000 us dollars for them , i said sounds ok but first i want to test the $5 note out in a bar to see if it is taken as genuine and will get back to you tomorrow , they said ok and gave me the $5 note i went out in the bar that night 20 years ago and had a great night spending the $5 as it was worth alot more then the next day i never went back to see them and went sunbathing instead it made a change SCAMMING THE SCAMMERS !!

From what I can recall...Laos money is very very easy to counterfeit...no real security measures, only colored ink...

Sure. Especially since Cameroon is CENTRAL Africa... :coffee1:

Its worth something if you find someone dumb enough to take it. If they had found a monopoly board the gang could just claim that they had the platinum version of the game with real looking fake money case closed.

Kind of stupid travel a long distance only to get caught scamming someone here as it is well known we have one of the smartest police forces on the planet. The food in Thai jails must be better than the African jails I guess.

Disagree. It is on the West African coast, maybe West Central Africa would be a better description, but West is West.

Is that part of the school curriculum in western sub-Saharan Africa? Scams and counterfeiting?

If they taught them programming they'd all be rich.

disagree... as much as u want, it's NOT west africa. and before you start giving me the typical TVF cr@p i have lived in WEST africa for 17 years and cameroon is NOT considered west africa, nor by west africans nor by the the public opinion. of course you can disagree and claim that Spain is east AMERICA which would be a typical TVF argument. or even better, claim that antarctica is south-africa................................................................

ps. it's NOT even part of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_African_Football_Union#Current_members

I know people who have got a counterfeit bill from the bank in the US before, and then it was detected with a marker pen at a store. The bank just says to bad for you.

They should at least give you the bill back with part of it cut off so they can't give it to some other poor sap. Bank is a four letter word isn't it.

I worked for a company called C'F'A'O. for many years, (Compagnie Francais de l' Afrique Occidentale) the leading exporter to WEST Africa, hence the word Occidentale.

After Nigeria, Cameroun was the biggest importer from them.

Google it, it is your friend.

Thats a good little consumer. I know your quoting Europe but here is a stat from the US  Savings fell to $780.9 billion, the lowest level since May 2015, from $809.1 billion in October. Sooo some are enjoying themselves as they know its later than others think.

yikes we  have some interesting characters...  I recall one artist who tried to pass of U.S. notes

all looked good except for the Ministry of Treasury.... 55555
