BANGKOK: -- Soldiers and police who raided what they thought was a gambling den in Bangkok have a decision to make.

Were the customers of the shop in Bangkok Noi gambling or just playing a game shooting fish?

Following reports of nefarious behavior, police from Bang Khun Non and some military men went to a shop in Charoen Sanitwong Soi 35, reports Daily News.

There were about a dozen people, some on computers and six seated around a game where they had to shoot fish.

The lady who was looking after the shop - Miss Soporn Nee from Cambodia - said she didn't know who the owner was and that she was paid 500 baht a day.

The raiding party took a quantity of cash, some accounts books, computers and the fish game in as evidence.

No charges were laid - now they have to decide if anyone was breaking the law.

Decisions, decisions...........doesn't everybody sit around nefariously  shooting fish in their spare time?

Low and behold, the mighty Thai military in action

"Following reports of nefarious behavior, police from Bang Khun Non and some military men went to a shop in Charoen Sanitwong Soi 35, reports Daily News."

""nefarious.

(typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal.

"the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates"

synonyms:wicked, evil, sinful, iniquitous, egregious, heinous, atrocious, vile, foul, abominable, odious, depraved, monstrous, fiendish, diabolical, unspeakable, despicable""

Really? A group of guys, sitting around a table, peacefully playing a game.  The word " nefarious" ,might better be used to describe the activities of certain people in more senior positions of power than these citizens. And we all know who they are. Don't we?

The virtual fish would probably disagree with you.

No flack jackets or automatic weapons like the brave Pattaya soldiers when they raided the oldies bridge club.

Not on a Friday before the long Christmas weekend.  Anything's possible today.

It seems these 6-8 player arcade games can be reprogrammed to play poker, black jack and other illegal gambling games as you can read in this article from California and little Saigon article also.

One of the popular ways to wager is the Fish Game. Several gamblers sit around a large machine and slap a button trying to “hit” animated characters, including a dragon, for points. The player with the most points wins; the game is the origin of the term slaphouse.

And

Slaphouse operators offer other games, too. Most often they are computer-based versions of blackjack, poker and various Asian games of chance. The music varies from club music and electronica to Vietnamese pop songs.

What ever happen to that bridge club and the out come?

They had this game table at the Emporium many years back. You score and accumulate points on the types and numbers of fishes.

Definitely can be used for gambling, especially when not a single kid is seated at the same table.

How many Thai soldiers does it take to shake down a video arcade, eight ?  What is the Thai word for investigation ?  Why didn't they send in a plain clothed detective first ?   The lack of finesse is mind numbing.

Meanwhie the big gamblers just pop across the border & leave their Thai money in Cambodia, Laos & now  Myanmar

or bet on the internet through dozens of UK betting shops

Sooner or later they will have to allow Casinos in Thailand won't they  ?????

Depending on some tea factors. If it is enough for some, fish shooting and mai mi pokatee. Should not, big, big problem, khrap.

I must be in the wrong country...what long Christmas weekend?

This ongoing crusade against private card games or bingo is utterly pathetic! Meanwhile, murderers go free and convicted ones get bail. Something's really wrong with the leadership in this country.

With all the country's problems and they are worried about a game? Absolutely no sense of reality and priorities at all. :post-4641-1156693976:

Always trying to harvest the low hanging fruit and not really getting to the top tiers of corruption. I wonder why? (rhetorical question)
