Berlin truck attack: Three detained in Tunisia 'including suspect's nephew'

Tunisia has arrested three suspected jihadists said to be linked to supposed Berlin truck attacker Anis Amri.

The Tunisian Interior Ministry said those detained included one of Amri’s nephews. In a statement, it said the trio were members of a “terrorist cell…linked to the terrorist Anis Amri who carried out the Berlin attack”.

Tunisian Amri, 24, the chief suspect in Monday’s ISIL-claimed atrocity at a Christmas Market in the German capital which left 12 people dead and dozens more injured, was shot dead by Italian police in Milan early on Friday morning after opening fire on officers during a routine check.

Tunisia has struggled with Islamist militancy since its 2011 Arab Spring revolution.

More than 4,000 Tunisians have left to join ISIL and other militant groups overseas, recruited by hardline preachers or online networks. Tunisia was hit last year by three major militant attacks, two targeting foreign tourists, by gunmen who spent time in jihadist camps overseas.

Misspelled, again

Several months during the Tunisian authorities did not respond to the German requests concerning Anis Amri on the pretext that his Tunisian nationality was not proven. Then, data arrives in Germany in the aftermath of the drama. Finally, a terrorist cell Is identified by the Tunisian Ministry of Interior in the entourage of the one who is suddenly Tunisian.

The Tunisian internal security forces  alarmed by the risk of Tunisia "sinking" in the event of a massive return of Tunisian jihadists to their country,  urge Tunisian government to take "exceptional measures", including deprivation of nationality. "
