Groups vow to battle cyber-law activists worried computer crime act won’t be enforced fairly and it left room for abuse

BANGKOK: -- HUMAN RIGHTS defenders and civic groups yesterday vowed to push for more efforts to prevent the controversial Computer Crime Act from infringing on netizens’ freedom of expression.

“We have another six months after the Act is announced in the Royal Gazette to monitor ministerial orders coming in accordance with the Act,” Thai Netizen Network leader Sarinee Achavanuntakul said at a seminar yesterday on the outlook for Thailand.

The National Legislative Assembly passed the amendment to the Computer Crime Act this month and the law is pending royal endorsement before coming into force.

It's the new Thailand people and you don't have rights anymore and complaining will only see you imprisoned.

I don't care what anyone's 'culture' is - never be afraid of criticising a bad idea.

If this law is applied with the same attention given other laws, the ‘Netizens’ probably don’t have a whole lot to worry about.

Can,t people see that the most important facet of the Computer Crime Laws is to protect your everyday computer users against E-Vandals ?

And Martians have just landed in my front garden.

Its not the culture that is the worry its the PM with his big article 44 stick tucked behind his back.

No, because it clearly isn't. They aren't remotely interested in the health of your computer.

i just wonder what kind of reaction tourist will have knowing the junta is hacking your compute???

Right now I see only two short to medium term futures for Thailand.

Bloody revolution leading to something different or a soft focus version of North Korea.

I would love to believe that there are other possibilities but for the life of me can't see any.

Unfortunately, I think most won't know or care. They will be in, spend their money and will be out again in a few days. The junta won't be interested in them.

I see fresh faces heading to Ko Tao and other such venues quite frequently...
