New year will bring fresh uncertainty in Thai politics
By Attayuth Bootsripoom

BANGKOK: -- After two and a half years in power, the junta-backed Prayut government remains in complete control of politics.  The administration has enjoyed a high degree of stability thanks mainly to the absolute power handed to Prayut in his capacity as National Council for Peace and Order leader.

The post-coup interim charter allows the junta chief to overrule any existing law and also other government branches – namely the legislature and the judiciary.

August’s national referendum helped strengthen the government’s position further when more than 60 per cent of voters approved the draft charter. For some, the result was a stamp of public approval for the government and the junta, offsetting the undemocratic means by which they came to power.

Uncertainty? It seems quite clear to open eyes where politics is headed!

The only certainty  in Thai politics is the uncertainly in Thai politics,

been here for 30 years and this statement ring true every year....

Don't really know why they needed an interim charter, they do what they want anyway.

I know they expect this charter to continue, if and when, they allow an election to be held, but why mention this as allowing the junta to overrule existing laws, they did it anyway and continue to do so.

Uncertainty in Thai politics, will there be an election in 2017 or not.

And will the result matter? In the U.K. the disaffected voted Brexit, in the USA they voted Trump. How will they vote in Thailand? Oh sorry, there's no such thing as "the disaffected" in Thailand, just a handful of recalcitrants aka. "deplorables"

Just don't  set  of  the big  one, before  2025,  I want  Climate  Change

to kick in for  a  few  years  before  really  heating  up  the  Earth  with

those  nasty  Nuke  bombs!

Uncertainty in Thailand.... "Is this the end of the Internet in Thailand 2017?"

lazy journalism - no uncertainty in 2017 - Junta remains in control. Purge continues.

Flip a coin. Politicians are a funny lot. Crafty Najib wanted to call a snap election as the opposition was in disarray but after a little thought he made the profound statement. Najib cools snap election talk as the Malaysia lacks "feel good factor" God and politicians move in mysterious ways.
