Thai "Law"*1 & "Legal"*2 Requirements on Seller & Buyer [ Falang on "Tourist Visa" or "Non-Imgrnt Visa with Extension for Retirement purpose" ] of 4 wheel motor vehicle in Thailand  ;

Question of particular interest to me ;

Must "Falang" Buyer produce testimony, & evidence ?, of  "home" address in country of passport for Thai authorities ?

The terms x]“lawful” and y]“legal” differ thus

x]

“Lawful” contemplates the substance of law.

A lawful act is "authorized", "sanctioned", or "not forbidden", by law.

y]

“Legal” alludes to the form of law.

A legal act is performed

  • in accordance with the forms and usages of law,

or

  • in a technical manner.

In this sense, illegal approaches the meaning of invalid.

e.g.

A contract or will, executed without the required formalities :

  • might be regarded as "invalid" or "illegal"

but

  • could not be described as unlawful.

I answered the only question i could find amongst the other <deleted>.

You need to provide proof of an address in Thailand, not your country of passport.

not sure why you needed to define words and prattle on but, whatever...

Hi jonw8uk,

It is pleasing to get answers telling that Thai authorities do not wish to know of Falang's home address in country [ or colony ? ] of passport ;

It is the official policy that I wish to be true.

My enquiry here is prompted from recent conversation with very knowledgeable Falang who told me that to complete the ownership of his new vehicle purchase from the dealership in LOS, he was told by them that he had to furnish 1. "official proof of his home of his respective country" & 2. "confirmation from his consulate that the proof is from government office of the country in question".

I presume that he also had to get official translation of 1., & 2., above, & accompany that with the submission.

Anyway, having given the documentation attesting to his "home" address in country of his passport to the dealership, they passed it to the Thai authorities.

Finally, the dealership confirmed to him that the vehicle is his.

.

As I am aiming to purchase new, or used, 4-wheel vehicle, I felt need to enquire if this somewhat grueling procedure is standard.

.

I make distinction as to "law" & "legality" because x] it is important to do so from the outset for this particular topic, & y] vis-a-vis Thailand  increasingly being more strict on Falangs, & z] for reason to save readers suffering from scruples being tempted to strain themselves to do so personally.

When I bought my pickup new back in 2001 I didn't even have an address in the UK as I was living and working in Thailand. The only thing that the finance company and the Ford dealers wanted in the way of an address was where I was living in Thailand and my Thai guarantors address.

Unless it has changed in the intervening years then I suspect that your "knowledgeable" friend does not know as much as he thinks that he does.

If the dealership says that is what they want, ask them if they want the business or not because you will be going to another dealer which does NOT require it.

BTW the pickup is still registered in my name and not my wife's.

Hi billd766,

I suspected  that he is wrong to affirm that his story is the law & legality for vehicle purchase by Falang on visa in LOS.

Hence, I questioning here on thaivisa.com.

.

However, he has been correct on matters where specialists that I consulted afterwards in the respective fields were adamant that he is wrong, but they were proven themselves to be wrong subsequently in this regard.

So, my suspicion has been a suspicion only.

.

For Falang only renting a cheap apartment & having modest income from overseas, would Thai bank give loan of THB 70,000 approx with cheap interest rate & without requiring personal collateral or guarantor so as to enable purchase of used 4-wheel vehicle but with short complete pay-back period ?

My woman is getting very impatient for I to have car ;

I hope I can buy 7 [  Yes, seven ] seater car for under THB 150,000 ;

I forget what the name for that type is ;

She told me of some makes she has come across on internet :

Mazda

Thai Rung

Kia ; I think

And, still, I will have to save up more money over some months to hopefully have that amount.
