a total of 5,694 people from all walks of life

"thereof a total of 5,690 people from all lower ranks behind the fences of military facilities" would read plausible.

Surprise, surprise...  :clap2::clap2::clap2:

6000 out of 60 million. can you really do a survey with such a small sample population and get any sort of real result?

Man of the Year, but President for Life.

Harold would have gotten my vote....

Why not man of the century, does it matter that we have 83 years left?

Darwin Award would have been more accurate!

Except those truely deserving the Darwin award usually need to send a substitute to accept it on their behalf and are often unaware of their success......or failure.

So he picked the winner?

Never trust a poll that gives percentages with 2 decimal points.

A percentage with no decimal points already implies an accuracy of 1 in a 100. One decimal point = one in a thousand. Two decimal points = one in ten thousand. So how can they suggest an accuracy of one in ten thousand when the sample size was less than ten thousand...!????

It shows they don't understand statistics, therefore they are not qualified to conduct polls!

Yes Prayut easily man of the year.

In a country where you can be arrested for having an opinion or not admiring him and where kindergarten children are being indoctrinated to worship him, what do you expect.

I take it the vote was strictly monitored to prevent the  Netizens from cheating? or was the man of the year chosen by the PM? Or was it a Typo and it was Joke of the year?

Who was the “Man of the Year 2015” then?

A post with a link to an article which could be deemed subversive has been removed, sorry.

Aw!

One of the benefits of this accolade is that on seeing the headline I spilt some of my white wine on a plate containing camembert and Xian dried beef creating an awesome fusion taste.

Thank you.

Yes, 6000 out of 6 million will give you: +- 1-2% accuracy with 95% confidence ...which is well within industry standards.

In the latest poll, “Most Popular of the Year 2016”, conducted by Dusit Poll on a total of 5,694 people from all walks of life during December 10-29, 80.69% gave Gen Prayut as the most popular man of the year, followed by Toon Bodyslam, or Atiwara  Kongmalai, the front man of Bodyslam, one of the most successful rock bands in Thailand. He received 10.12%votes.

The third most popular man was Thai national football team manager Kiatisuk Senamuang or better known as Ziko. He got 9.19% votes.

If you count up the 3 finalist in the poll you get 100% of the votes, which mean there were only 3 carefully chosen candidates.

Another example of freedom of choice and expression in Thailand

Try having a poll up here in the NE and NW. The most disliked man i've ever witnessed Thais have a disdain for.

This is complete nonsense I'm afraid, the decimal points relate to the percentages(numbers ranging from 0-100) of the votes cast, not sample size(in this case 5,694).. they could include 10 decimal points for percentage of votes won with only 10 voters and it would still be right,

Off topic posts and replies about the recent US election have been removed.

mmmm--In Thailand, "Man of the year is Prayut ( according to Dusit poll); in the USA, the "Man of the year is Trump."( according to Time magazine)

Do I detect some personality similarities between the two???

In a recent joint poll by NIDA (National Institute of the Development AdministrATion) and Super-Duper Polling Inc. (registered in June 2014), 77.84% the participants agreed that Thailand was "Country of the Year" for 2016 because have the government of the good people and moral to solve the problem for daily life, 13.36 thought it was China for don't interference in other countries business, while only 6% said other country because the freedom and human rights. This poll was conducted from Dec 18-22 among 1426 people in Bangkok and other countries.

The Russians hacked the Dusit Poll website !

I nominate  Phra Dhammachayo as man of the year for making such fools of the PM and the Thai authorities.

Oh please, makes my head hurt!
