Thai Language School (Non-Immigrant ED) visa

Featured Replies

Hi all

So I have been in Thailand since 28 July 2016, I obtained my visa and enrolled at a language school while I was still in my home country (New Zealand)

The school is great and very helpful with all paper work and explaining what you have to do for you extension, I have done 3 extension so far and next month will do my 90day report.

My question that I need information on is about when I have to do my border run, before I got to Thailand the rules of a ED visa changed and from my understanding from what I have been told is the ED visa is only valid for 3months from entry into Thailand, after this you are allowed to extend it for  2months at a time up to 8months which then you have to leave the boarded and get a new ED visa which is valid for 3months then once that runs out you can extend for 2months at a time until you reach a total of 14months all together which then you will have to obtain a different type of visa altogether if you would like to stay longer!

So I am coming up to my 8months in April I believe from what the school has told me, Where i will have to a boarder run, The school in conjunction with a company have a bus that takes you to the Laos boarded to do your paper work then takes you to a hotel to stay over night then in the morning takes you back to get your passport and new visa and returns you back to the school a total of 6000Baht which is very cheap and a total of 12hours drive there in back.

But as I live here with my partner and her family (who are Thai) we were thinking of going to a closer boarder and doing it ourselves cause we believe it could be cheaper and gives us the opportunity to travel, and site see parts of Thailand we haven't been to and I just wanted to know if this is possible to do if we choose the Cambodia border crossing at

Amphoe Aranyaprathet
Changwat Sa Kaeo 27120
Thailand

Any information would be much appreciated

Kind Regards

P.S. sorry for the bad English, sentence structure and jumping subjects just trying provide as much information as possible!

You cannot get a new non-ed visa at a border crossing. You will have to apply for it at a embassy or consulate.

There is no embassy or consulate near the crossing at  Aranyaprathet. You would have to travel to Phnom Penh from there.

The embassy in Vientiane and the consulate in Savannakhet Laos are the only locations near a border crossing.
