NLA ‘likely to change’ draft proposals for organic laws

Assembly officials reserve right to make amendments

 

BANGKOK: -- THE vice president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) said yesterday that the body might decide to make substantial changes to the draft organic laws to ensure the continuing performance of key agencies.

 

The NLA was entitled to revise the draft laws so long as they conformed to the referendum-endorsed constitution, Surachai Liengboonlertchai said.

 

However, if the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) disagreed with the fine-tuning to its draft laws, a joint committee would be set up to come up with a compromise.

Both the NLA and the CDC have the same boss. I guess they noticed that voting 168:0 only after a few hours did not look so well, and now they pretend to be in disagreement... :)

Could take some time.

Setting up committees, proposing revisions, amending proposed revisions and so on.

Yes, it could take quite some time.

Might even delay the election...

Apparently the desagreement is about the strict criteria set by the CDC to select members of independent organisations. The NLA fears it will be too difficult to find enough qualified people.....with the right colour... :)
