I am removing a 220v halogen light and two twin short strip lights from under the house eaves and external ceiling want to replace them with LED lighting.

The eaves and ceiling overhang a new fish pond we just built and I'd like the lighting to give half decent light into the pond.

Any advice on voltage, number of lights and spacing appreciated.

Length of eaves 8m x 1m overhang plus 3m x 3m ceiling, kind of 'L' shape.

Cheers

Warm Led light will give a more attractive look to people and features than "Daylight".  Eve Lighting is a brand that I have had very good results at my home in Buriram. All the modern trade stores and many of the Mom and Pop electric shops carry this brand. If you look at their web site you will understand that it was started by a Thai who had worked many years for Philips Lighting. The lumens are listed on any reputable brand of light fixture. Where your light fixture could be exposed to horizontal rain storms you might consider the IP65 fixtures.  Round LED fixtures might be more attractive than twin strips of light, but that is a personal choice.  They have two web sites.  List prices are a starting point with this brand. Some modern trade stores are much more expensive than some other stores in Isaan on this brand of LED Lighting.

@David B in Thailand

Thanks, I'll check out Eve Lighting.

Yes to IP65 lights, everything electrical I am putting outside I try to source waterproof, difficult sometimes.

Also agree round lights are more aesthetically pleasing than strip lights.

12v on transformer?

If you are putting the lights under the eves, there isn't really a safety reason to go with 12v and transformer.  There are lots of options for 220v LED.  My garden lights are 6W LED inside of "water proof" containers and they are very bright.  I also checked out LAZADA for "garden LED lights" and got some options I hadn't seen before but nothing for the two prong LED lights needed for my kit.  Maybe check it out and see if there is something you like?

Cheers Steve. After posting above I checked out Dave's recommended site and that gave me a bit more to go on. Thanks for the info.

I just discovered LED lightbulbs...what will they think of next? screws directly into a 220V socket on a table lamp...none of those fiddly little transformers with separate wiring, they must have a step down arrangement built in...I got a 'Lamptan' 6W bulb screwed into my computer desk 220V lamp at the moment...brilliant light...

looks like it would suit a 220V outdoor lighting fixture that takes a normal incandescent bulb...my missus found it...

@tutsiwarrior  About a month ago I went to a good-size HomePro to get a 25w "standard" incandescent light bulb.  The store had two long aisles of light bulbs and the entire stock of incandescents was restricted to a two-foot length of two (maybe three?) shelves.  The Big C and Tesco I had checked didn't have any.  Before long, it'll be hard to find incandescent bulbs, even in Thailand.

yeah...incandescents are obsolete...I was just suggestin' that a standard 220V incandescent type outdoor lighting fixture can be used with this LED bulb that I got, i.e., no need to change the whole arrangement to fit LED lighting...6W LED lumens are equivalent to 14W fluorescent and 40W incandescent per the  blurb on the box...supposed to 'last 12 years'...

I didn't ask the missus what it cost or where she got it from but it was probably a little mom and pop hardware store somewhere here in our little town...so they're probably generally available...

I replaced two 500W quartz halogen flood lights on the back of my house, 22 meters long, with three 50W LED floodlights and am very satisfied with the results.  I bought the lights from Lazada but I am in the boonies and none of the local shops carried them.

I order these http://www.lazada.co.th/thaivasion-led-flood-light-led-50w-220v-2134487.html.

Available in Thailand, ordered on Monday had them on Wednesday via Kerry Express.  Some of the others come from China and are cheaper but sometimes take a long time to get.

Do people actually still buy incandescent bulbs ? So glad to see the back of them. More so the ones in Asia markets as they have smaller diameter filament wire so only last a few Months. Buy LED bulbs and they are good for a very long time..But not 10 yrs as some brands proclaim.

All led lights bought in thailand come from china, whether it is the led or the driver or the housing they are made in china, so why pay twice the price ?

I realize that, but these were in stock in Thailand and I got them in two days.  I have some stuff on order from Lazada that is coming and has been coming for a long time from China with no actual delivery date projected.  I wanted them right away so I ordered them from Lazada.  Eve has 50W units but they are 1700 baht from another source ibn stock in Thailandand I would have top pay shipping.

I have bought from lazada, good exp so far better prices usually than stores here. One thing I like about buying from ali is I can look at all the specs of the led. led's being very directional light  I like to know the degree of the output and the color temp, also I can buy cree and epistar led's which have a very good quality rating.

Found a good article to explain LED lights replacing conventional bulbs

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/mar/28/led-lights-information

Going to start by replacing bulbs for now. Thanks for all the info.

check out the date of the article...2014...LED lighting technology has come a long way since then, now ye got screw in LED light bulbs that will fit a normal light fitting...

back in 2014 I was living in a flat that had the LED arrangement described in the article with fiddly little individual transformers and etc...and whenever a light went out I simply wouldn't replace it because of the hassle...things are alot different now...

Yeah, I realized the date but useful anyway. I've already replaced a couple of screw-in bulbs with LED screw-ins.

9W LED replaced 24W 'enery-efficient' bulb and is brighter.

I found the info on bulb 'warmth' useful also.
