US - Thailand Real Estate Transactions

Featured Replies

Newbie here - first post.

Apologies if this has been asked previous. I did a search and did not see similar post.

I am hoping to gain some insight on the current market condition in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai especially.

My general questions:

What is the process of selling property in Thailand, particularly for someone who lives in the US but wants to sell land in Thailand?

Is it best to utilize a real estate agent or lawyer? Does Thailand require a lawyer to sell?

How does the financial transaction process work? (exchange rate, taxes by both Thailand and US)

I am based in the San Francisco, California area and the real estate market here is crazy but the process is pretty transparent. Hoping Thailand is similar.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

You need a lawyer - except you are able to read and write the required documents in Thai.

Taxes varies according to the situation (how long the property was hold before sale, individual or company etc.). You can search the Internet for these information.

I suggest to consult a professional like http://pugnatorius.com/.
