Pretty girl buys a movie ticket - then finds her image plastered all over theater's advertising

BANGKOK: -- An attractive Thai girl went online to say that she had bought a ticket from a well known movie chain only to find out within days that they were using her image to promote their theaters.

The girl - membership number 1802090 on the Pantip site - said that she had provided her picture when ordering a ticket online. She paid an extra 40 baht for her image to be printed on the ticket, reported Daily News.

But just two days later when she went to watch the movie she found that the chain had used her pretty face on its advertising, promotional material and ticket booths. All without her permission.

"She asked on Pantip: "What can I do about this?"

Online lawyer Ranarong Kaewpet was in no doubt after he was contacted by Daily News. He said that using someone's image in this way without their permission could be prosecuted as a criminal offence.

The girl concerned could go to police and the firm or its employees could face a jail term of six months to four years and a fine of 100,000 to 400,000 baht - or both.

He suggested that the movie theatre concerned quickly contact the woman in question to settle the matter amicably before charges were made.

Copy, right?

try asking the cinema what they are playing at as opposed to pantip

Lucky girl, she's going to get a payout!

Life is cruel, be pretty no good and everyone want a piece of you,

be ugly even worse, no one want anything to do with you.... Sigh...

"She paid an extra 40 baht for her image to be printed on the ticket..." Vain much?

I suspect there might have been some fine print regarding the use of photos submitted for this exercise in vanity that the lovely girl probably didn't read. I say "might".

They must be furious over at the netizen colony.....:coffee1:

Being old, helps to equalize things out, as being pretty and handsome, is more of a young

person problem,  now where is that remote,  I am missing the news!

Geezer

Well, you have to give the cinema operator that - charging THB 40, extra that is, for putting your own picture on the ticket. Question to self; who would do this - Answer to self; it's being done while I wonder.

Then, on a macro level; is this the kettle calling the pot black? Look at the ongoing gross ignorance on copyrights and trademarks. Copying foreign stuff is OK and done literally everywhere, copy their own (i.e. own picture) is not ok. While I certainly agree with the second I see no end to the first as - there again, the root of the problem is the law enforcement agents, aka BiB - PM please note!

Why should someone pay 40baht to print your photo on your cinema ticket?

Reckon there are offers of 3000b an hour already.

Nice bit of promotion.

She probably gave her permission in the small print that she ticked without reading when she bought the ticket.

Most probably she's underage....that theatre shouldn't have done it without explicit permission, not hidden in some fine-print somewhere.

Daily News blurs it, but Pantip airs it......:coffee1:

Yeah, her makeup sure doesn't do good things for her looks.  Makes her nose look too big.

Unless she's from a well connected family.  Given the option of 6 months in the slammer and a 100-400K baht fine, they may roll over and pay her well.

Great gimmick you pay for the picture they own the copyright. Genius. A you pay beauty contest.

Also kind of the newspaper to pick this story up and then print her Pantip user ID in the article.......

Looking to her facebook page, you would notice she is not from a poor family ...... and she post only photo's from herself, so i guess she liked to see her pic's all over that place....

The ticket in this case is an like M-Card. Which you can top up with money to have credit in it to buy tickets off the kiosk at the cinemas. I have it too to buy cinema tickets. I think the reporting is off here.

I guess printing her picture on her card is just a way of personalising it.

Yep opportunity knocks, go talk to the chain & offer them a "way-out" of prosecution !!

I'd make it just below the fine total?

Gotta admit, I didn't get that far.  I don't even have a Facebook account.  I didn't get past the OP before I lost interest.

She must have a Kardashian Komplex,

regards worgeordie

I thought the same when I went to see a Brad Pitt movie :)

Maybe because you wanted to.
