12th APEC summit postponed until January 2007

The 12th APEC summit will be postponed until January 2007 due to heavy typhoons in the Philippine Islands.

The Philippine government has announced that the 12th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit will have to be postponed due to the Zemyang (เซมยาง) tropical depression reaching typhoon proportions and impacting major areas of the Philippine Islands.

Philippine authorities report that the severity of the storm may pose risks to members of APEC, and that the government did not wish for APEC leaders to attend the summit during a natural disaster.

The Philippine government is therefore postponing the 12 APEC summit to January 2007.

Jai Dee - I don't understand this ? :o There must surely be some error attributed to this bulletin from Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department ?

I understood there was only one APEC Summit every year -and we just had this year's APEC

summit in Hanoi, Vietnam ???

" This year, in Hanoi, Vietnam, Ministers will gather for the Annual Ministerial Meeting on 15-16 November. APEC 2006 meetings will then conclude with the APEC Leaders Summit, to be held on 18-19 November. Key issues that Leaders will discuss at the Summit cover Economy and Trade, Security and APEC Reform. "

Australia will hold the next APEC meetings outlined as follows :-

" From January to September 2007 Australia will host a series of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial, officials-level and business-group meetings in cities and regional centres across the nation, culminating in the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) in Sydney on 8–9 September 2007 "
