Uni girl propositioned for sex - but cops do nothing

BANGKOK: -- A Thai university girl said that a man showed her a sex video on a phone and asked her to do likewise to him.

 

The incident happened in broad daylight in a Bangkok market as 21 year old Praeploy was parking her car to go to a bank.

 

But the man wouldn't take no for an answer and followed her to a som tam stall where he tried again to "take her home".

 

But after a full hour when the cops finally arrived they said that no crime had been committed and they could do nothing. They advised the victim to wait until something criminal happened, the girl claimed.

 

Sanook.com reporters went to the Prangern market in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi to talk to Praeploy who is a student at a well known Bangkok university.

 

She said she had just been at the gym nearby and was going to the bank at the market to deposit some money. As she parked a man came and opened the passenger door and tried to get in while asking her for her phone number, reports Sanook.

 

"I was scared," she said. "I said 'no' I have a boyfriend".

 

The man left and she locked the doors but then he reappeared at the driver's side and this time turned on a sex movie on his mobile phone and said: "Let's do that together".

 

She managed to get away and ran for help to a female som tam vendor nearby but the man followed her as if nothing was wrong and said: "Come on let's go home together now".

 

The som tam seller advised her to call police and take a video of the man while she protected her. Despite the police station being nearby it took an hour before a patrol arrived by which time the man, aged about 25-30, had left.

 

But not before he had been circling in the area on his motorcycle.

 

However, police told Praeploy that no crime had been committed and they would do nothing.

 

"They told me I have to wait until he has done something illegal before they can do anything," she said. "But I live nearby and I don't feel safe. I have to go to the market often to shop. Why won't the cops do anything - I don't understand", she added.

 

The som tam seller said that she had seen it all. She said that the victim was a pretty girl and when she saw the man go up to her car she thought to herself: "Funny that such a pretty girl would have such an ugly boyfriend".

 

"But then she came over all scared saying she had been asked for sex and shown a video," said the som tam seller. "The man came over and wai-ed me and said he was taking her home after I asked if he knew her. While we were waiting for the police he got on a motorbike outside a convenience store and was circling all about looking at her", she added.

Ahhh... the annual police exams don't cover stalking...

The Police said could do nothing.  What they meant is cant be asked to do anything.

Well, can't do nothing unless there's a dead body, and than everybody

will scramble around to change the law to protect young girls in their car..

Because Thailand is male oriented and you have no rights, yet. Why is it that a rapist gets a 1 year sentence (out in 6 months) but a drug dealer gets 5 to 10 years. While we are at it, why is there no penalty for stalking a women...

Nothing in it for these parasites so why should they assist?

Which one is the man?

At the least they should be on the lookout for this guy, and have a talk with him down at the station.  Who knows what this guy is up to.

Better ask the police about that but he wasn't showing the movie to every hot girl, he showed it to one adult and that doesn't seem to be illegal, neither does one adult propositioning another.

I know several streets in Thailand where EVERY Thai girl asks the same to EVERY man walking there...guess i should go there to ask them.

Also i'll give the police a call, hope they speak english though.

No crime has been committed?  I hope something like this happened to the daughters of the policemen n we shall see if there are any crimes committed.. 

This man should not be left out in the streets. he is a predator waiting to commit rape.

My bet is that at other times it works for him. They should have at the very least run his name and see if he is a violent offender with a record.

If I had a nickel for everytime a farang has propositioned my gf. I would have about ten bucks. Usually happens at the Emporium or Paragon.....

Forget the exams and the "live" police. Replace them all with those talking plastic cops that were all the rage here a couple years ago. They would accomplish much more. Can hardly wait till AI takes over the BIB should be quite an improvement from the present lot.

Except for showing the video the man did nothing wrong. You have the right to ask a person to have sex. And they have the right to decline.

If the man had left her car and she had locked the door's why did she not just drive away instead of getting out of the car when he came back?

in farangland it can be assault without even touching the victim.  and kidnapping if he doesn't let her leave.

 

but in LOS, i just bought a 43 inch SmartPhone to show everyone porn (which i thought was illegal to see here, anyhow) and then hold a sign, "which pretty girls want to do the same?"

 

of course my sign will be in Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and maybe English; however, English was my 93th language I acquired after the accident.

Yes , as long as you not offer any money it is ok. Otherwise you would be tricking someone in to prostitution.
