PHUKET:-- One northbound lane of the Bang Ku Underpass will be open from January 14-20 to ease the flow of traffic during two upcoming Royal visits next week.

“We have received a request from traffic police to temporarily open the lane, as Her Majesty Princess Ubolratana will visit the island on January 16 and Her Majesty Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will visit on January 19,” confirmed Somkiet Yimpong, the Bang Ku project engineer from the Department of Highways.

Now thats good news

Well it was open for a number of days over New Year for the public to use so why not?

Will probably juts delay it being completed.

And this to pretend the traffic situation is better than it really is?

What time Her Majesty Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will land at HKT on 19th?

They'll stop all traffic for them anyway.

It made a big difference to flow when it was opened during the new year holiday period. Would be nice if they kept a lane open all the time. Finish up one side, then swap lanes and finish up the other side. I know its not as simple  as that, but the sooner the bottleneck caused by the bypass U-turn near Toyota is gone the better.

Next thing needed is to stop the northbound motorbikes crossing from the hard shoulder side of the southbound road at the Bang Ku intersection trying to cut diagonally across three lanes of traffic turning right onto the bypass road so they can head north. Totally illegal, crazy dangerous and really messes with the flow of traffic.

I agree with stevenl, traffic will be stopped a long time before the motorcade begins it's journey, so this won't make one bit of difference.

You guys are right, it will be RTP ever 50 meter of the way and as you say other trafic has to stop.

So the only thing that come out from this is 7 more days delay making the underpass then

What's news…..? It has mostly been in use for a couple or three weeks already, albeit with just one lane as work continues.
