Too many SETV's?

Featured Replies

I have had 3 visa exempt entries, 3 SETV from Penang, 3 SETV from Vientianne over the past 2.5 years or so.

I have only 3 days left on my last SETV 30 day extension, so I must leave the country.

I recently got married to a Thai but do not have time to register the marriage at Amphur before I must depart the country.

Ideally I would go to a neighboring country and get another 30 day visa exempt stamp, and that would be the last one as I will get the marriage sorted out next week.

Where should I go? If denied entry via air, am I forced to return to my G7 country?

Thanks

If you come by air I doubt that you will get denied entry they will just give you visa exempt for 30 days

You should have no problem getting a visa exempt entry with your history. Your tourist visas do not count against being able to get one.

You could do it overland at most crossings without a problem also.

Thanks. I should have no problem, but what if I do?

What is the least risky solution?

If you were questioned on entry having 20k baht in cash and proof of an income from outside the country would take care of any questions. Having a ticket out of the country would also be good to have.

There is no written rule that limits the number of visa exempt entries by air. They can only deny entry under section 12 of the immigration act and the financial proof I mentioned take care of the 2 most common denials of entry under it.

The least risky solution would be to get another tourist visa.

I wouldnt be so sure about this, I have a friend with a similar sort of history, he was stopped 2 months ago at DM coming in on a VE and questioned in a office for 90 minutes, at first the senior I/O was not going to let him enter but relented later

On Tuesday he returned to Swampy from HCMC with a SETV and was again questioned, this time at the counter, had to show ticket out/money etc, he reckoned the only reason he was let through without further questioning was because the lines were so busy

To answer your question OP on the first occasion he was told he would be returned to where he had just come from which was Penang if I remember right

OP go to Immigration and get another 7 days, maybe this will give you enough time to get sorted?

If not take your marriage documents with you for when you fly back in to show to Immigration, they should be ok if you explain why you need to do a Visa Exempt

I can get another 7 days? I thought the 30 day extension was the most possible.

7 days is all I need.

If you apply again for an extension on the entry that you have just extended, they will deny the extension but give you 7 days to leave the country. In that 7 days you could then attend to getting married as you said you was getting married next week. You can then sort yourself another visa rather than doing it the way you was advised. That's why getting 7 days was suggested and how it's achieved.

Excellent. Must I do this on the last possible day?

I would of thought you would do it anytime in the last 14 days you have left of your extension. I don't do extensions,I never have done so wouldn't want to mislead you. I am sure somebody will confirm when you can do it.

You can do it on Monday, it can be done, I've done it myself after already extending my VE by 30 days, 1900 Baht
