While in Hanoi I went to the Thai Embassy and asked for a 2 month visa. Returned the next day with the visa in my passport. Yesterday I entered Thailand via Don Muang and at immigration I was given a stamp that says I need to leave on Feb 12th (1 month, not 2). I didn't catch it until today.

Has this happened to anyone before? Do I have any recourse?

Apologies in advance if this is a common question, I did a quick skim and didnt see anything and didnt quite know the correct search terms.

Cheers

Happened to many. Any other month a thread here.

The immigration officer did not notice your visa and you have probably forgotten to write down the visa number in the departure card?

You have to visit the immigration office to correct that (Chaeng Wattana if you are in Bangkok).

Lessons to learn (for others):

  • write down visa number in departure card
  • hand over passport with visa page opened
  • always check stamp after checkpoint and have it corrected by a superior in case of error

Thanks for the response. Strange part is I did the first 2 items you mentioned and she stil made the error. Bummer I have to go all the way up to Chaeng Wattana... Hate that place.
