Just flew back to Thailand. Do I need to inform someone?

Featured Replies

I have a non-O, multiple.

When I went with my owner to register me and my family (TM.30 I think), they told me that if I'm away from my house for more than 24 hours EITHER IN THAILAND OR ABROAD, I need to register myself either at the local immigration or the local police station. When I come back, I need to do the same in my province.

This was told me in the small hut at the old CM immigration office.

I was in CM Prom' immigration a month ago, re-asking about that. They told me they think I need to do that but it is not important if I don't. I asked several persona there and it seems they don't really understood what should be done.

I flew away for a few days and just came back. I asked again at DMK. They didn't know what I'm talking about.

Do I need to do something when I come back into the kingdom? How much time do I have? 24 / 48 / better to do before next stamp?

Please advise.

Even when referring to CM this thread is better placed in the Thai visas ... forum.

Moved.

By law, the place where you stay (or you if you are "house-master") must file a TM-30 every time you return from a trip away for more than 24 hours.  Some offices enforce it this way and fine you upon your next appearance at Immigration if you this is not done.  Other offices only want you to file this if you move to a new location.  Some don't seem to follow this process at all.

At the office where I report, I was told only to do it if I change my address (not every in/out).  Chang Mai may be on the "report every time" office-list - but someone from there can confirm.  To be on the safe-side, I would make sure a TM-30 is filed for you for this return.

Did the immigration officer officer tell you with what form you  must register yourself, TM.28 or TM 30?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

YOU don 2ith9n 24 hours  ;t need yo inform anyone.

If you rent a residence the "house owner or master" may be rewuired to notify the local police of your return within 24 hours of your return.

If you stay in a horel as a tourist the hotel management should yake care of that.

As anything else in Thailand the "ules" are uncertain and different areas have diffeent interpretations.

I will echo the OP was told exactly what I was told.. And given paperwork / printed leaflets I have posted here multiple times saying the same.

It should be every 24h stay in any place at any time.. I made a mockery of this by going and reporting every 2 or 3 days to wind them up...

Also they REFUSED point blank to let me register the TM30 for my landlord.. It had to be my landlord, his agent or representative, they even joked 'his gik' but it was anyone except me.. I was the rentor, he was the owner.. He had to do it..

In 3 of my last 3 places that wasnt possible.. One lived in Switzerland, the other was a high power judge and had no time for the process.. Just refused..

Seems now its being more widely implemented they have relaxed a little. Simply no way to do it 24h trips.

If you have done your first TM30, you are registered "in the system".

You just need to go to Promenada, 2nd floor, there is a "TM30" desk. You tell them "update please" and 30 seconds later it's done. Just bring your passport with your new TM6 (the Departure card). Nothing else needed.

That's what I did 2 weeks ago.

It appeas as if nobody can tell you what you must do except an official charged with implementing the Immigration Act who you are dealing with at the time. As people have found to their cost this is an unfair situation.

I have just checked the Immigration Act and it seems that the conditions for 37 (3) (4) are not stipulated in the act but laid down by the Police Directorate, presumably for each visitor under section 34 ( category of visitor) . However 37(2) is stipulated in the act and says that if you can't stay where you reported then you must inform the official within 24 hours.
I presume that this report is made on the TM6 (arrival card) which we don't retain. The departure card and a stamp in a passport are the only conditions which apply initially to every category of visitor, there is no mention of section 37 (2) so how is a visitor to comply?

Thanks all. I'll go first thing on Monday and report back.

By the way, when the officer told me "it's not important", she also mentioned they fine house-owners only and not renters. Somehow, I doubt that, too.

You also need to read section 38 which is what the TM30 report is for.

There are two different sections under penalties for those sections also.

Yes amazing isn't it. The translation of the notes to 37 (3) (4) are rubbish but show that they are not the same as (2) yet without promulgating any of them they still have penalties for non compliance. I don't concern my self with 38 because I am not a householder. It is interesting that a manager of a hotel can be fined as much as 10000 Baht. Someone letting their condo to a friend might one day find that not only is he a house-master but a manager of a hotel also! Thank goodness I report to "Head Office" where only (5) is bothered with.

Thailsacien is correct , go in with your passport , departure card and  the old TM 30 slip , they will put a new small stamp on it.

That's all.

Good luck

If you dont report at CNX Immigration upstairs at Promenada within 24 hours of arrival; then your house master will be blessed on your next visit there with a 1600 baht fine as my Thai partner found out this week. Naturally she blamed me; Thainess in action. Inconsistencies in fines one neighbor was fined 800 baht ( there is a rumor thats the Thai only fine; but if the farang is with her expect 1600). However, the Thai neighbor took another Thai neigbor after her 800 baht hit; the new reporting person got 1800? Of course the internet reporting site is still conveniently down since December 7th last year.

Sometimes I wish I were living in Thailand, in an area with immigration officers like yours who are either ignorant or deliberately abusing their authority. Oh, the fun I would have with them.

So, finished with that, everything went fine.

I did wait for two hours (13:15 - 15:15) as there were about 20 numbers ahead of me.

Thanks all!
