Just got Thai marriage certificate

Featured Replies

Do I need to leave the country to apply for a marriage visa?

Or can I go to immigration in Bangkok with the marriage certificate, and they will give me a visa or permission to stay?

What visa did you use to enter the country?

If you entered as a tourist, and have at least 15 days of your permission to stay left, you can apply for a Non-Immigrant visa at CW immigration. That will give you permission to stay for 90 days and you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay within the last 45 days.

If you don't have 15 days left you could apply for a 30 or 60 day extension (if you haven't had one already) and apply for the Non-I visa anytime within the first 45 days of that extension.

Thanks.

I only have two days left on my 30 day extension of my SETV.

Is there anything I can do that does not require leaving the country?

Yes. Now you're married you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay to visit your wife. You'll need the original and copy of your marriage certificate. Your  wife will need to go with you and provide signed copies of her ID and house registration book.

If I was on a one day overstay, could i still do this and pay the fine and get the 60 days?

No guarantees, but there is a very high chance they will still grant the extension as long as you pay the overstay fine.

Thanks. This can be done at any immigration office and not just Bangkok?

Any immigration office.

You will need proof for residence to do the application.

Will the OP be able to get the 60 day extension, as he has already had a 30 day extension to the SETV?

Some offices will do the 60 day extension after the 30 day extension but others will not.

Any idea od the odds of them allowing it in ratchaburi? Can I have someone call and ask them?

I will be applying on the day my current extension expires.

It would be a 50/50 chance I would say. You could have somebody to call and ask.

If they say no when you try  you could get 7 days to leave the country after your pay1900 baht for it.
