Street racers to face tough action now

BANGKOK: -- The military yesterday reiterated it's tough action to deal with young motorcycle racers after these youngsters continued to race with no fear of the absolute order issued by the junta head.

Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister has voiced concern over the ongoing street racing by these youngsters following floods of complaints the Dumrongtham government complaint centre received from the people.

He said although the order was issued since last year to tackle street racers, the problem remained unsolved.

He said the prime minister has again tighten the grip on the Royal Thai Police and the military to enforce the order stringently to clamp down street racing, particularly at Bang Saen beach where racing remains rife.

He said under the prime minister’s instruction, street racers must be arrested, their vehicles seized, and hefty fine imposed.

And still no real action will be taken.

They've only had like 3 years to address this. May as well order in a troop of macaques because the police aren't interested. I mean why would they be, where's the monetary incentive of doing their normal job?

Par for the course on most topics.

Double secret probation this time?

It will be given the same intensive attention as van and bus crashes - that is bugger - all.

It's time to put that foot down, and that foot is me.

I wonder sometimes, if the general actually realises he has one of the worst police forces possible......I don't think he understands just how useless they are!

One of my apartment is around the Krungthonburi BTS area, I can say that before the junta was in power, the street racers were there every weekend until early hours of morning 2-3am. They have been gone every since the junta started the crack down, police have been active at cracking down racers in this area. I just saw a group got rounded up back in October last year.

I think its down to the police  department some still can't be bother to do the job, some can.

Or wearing a helmet...i saw 2 policemen driving motocy without one today.

And what about racing jetski's all night?? Stay away from the river cause you'll have to hear them nonstop....

the police do bugger all because many of the kids are their families, they should simply take all the bikes and crush them, very hard to race when your bike is a square of metal and plastic. The kids donr give a sh*t because nothing bad happens to them, take their bikes and  it will stop very quickly, with no bikes they lose heaps of face and all their "toughness"

Well they could at least wear a helmet themselves. Just to give the example how it's done.

But even the police can't be bothered what the General wants..maybe somebody post  should pictures of them on the phantip forum or thai tv...but i doubt it will help.

Street racers face tough action now. As they have faced all this while. :coffee1:

And we've come full circle. I don't even bother looking at a calendar anymore, I just read what crimes are suddenly being "cracked down" on. When I read "Police crack down on motorcycles driving on sidewalks" I know it's June etc. etc.>_>

Most weekends I go to a very nice beach in Chumphon called Thung Wua Lean. What used to be a quiet laid back beach has been turned into a race track by gangs of tw@ts and where are the police any bodies guess, som tam shop, bar who knows they certainly are not on the beach.

Talking to local expats and Thai business owners they say that they have asked for speed bumps but are told too exspensive  but they want to widen the road ( which no one wants) probably so they can have truck races as well.

Everybody is just waiting for someone to be killed trying to cross the road to get to the beach.

They just have no idea what people want .Morons

" Street racers to face tough action now "  Wasn't that last years headline?

My 6 Y.O. fully understands people not wearing helmets - "dad, they don't have a  brain so no need for a helmet."
