THE DEFENCE MINISTRY permanent secretary charged with heading a new committee to facilitate reconciliation assured yesterday that the latest effort to achieve national harmony was not a trick to buy time or a political “put-up job”.

General Chaichan Changmongkol also promised to complete gathering feedback from political groups within three months.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said the junta would not allow political parties to assemble despite the reconciliation effort and opinion gathering.

Of course not. :o

Perish the thought. ;)

Only the cynical would think like that.

"...Prawit said junta would not allow political parties to assemble despite reconciliation effort and opinion gathering..."

It's really sad, isn't it ???

For all intents and purposes (and despite the fact that it is now 2017), with statements like this from the rotund homunculus, Thailand under junta-domination may as well be back in the days when people were told that the earth was flat (and, anyone who questioned that belief, was labelled a heretic)  !!!

"Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said the junta would not allow political parties to assemble despite the reconciliation effort and opinion gathering. "

A statement where logic is truly absent.

It's only taken 2 1/2 years to form a committee on arguably the most important issue facing the country.

What's the hurry?

And why form only one committee when three, four or even nine would do the trick?

And what the heck has the National Reform Steering Committee (NRSA) been doing for the last two years? I mean bedsides drawing a salary.

Very little confirms the truth as well as an official denial.

feedback from political groups within three months.

Followed by another three months to educate political groups on expected bevahior, followed by one month of attitude adjustment. Why would the military delay that process?

The last part above defeats the first part of the posting. These guys just cannot get on the same page. Sometimes I think Prawit imagines he has more power than the PM

" the latest effort to achieve national harmony was not a trick to buy time "

and a large committee will soon be formed to look into the reasons why people might think that way.

As if a committee of worn out old generals has a chance of reconciling anything. Why don't they just come clean and admit that they don't intend to hold as election? After all, they can shoot anyone who disagrees with them, so what are they afraid of?

It is no more a trick then taking over the country by a coup was.
