Phuket Regional Blood Centre seeks urgent donations of blood types A and AB

PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC) is asking residents with blood types A and AB to donate blood at Vachira Hospital Phuket to ensure an adequate supply available for hospitals to deal with emergencies.

 

PRBC Chief Pornthip Ratchak told The Phuket News that Vachira Hospital Phuket welcomed all blood donations, but was urgently seeking blood donations for Group A and AB as stocks were dwindling.

A negative and AB negative I presume.

My AB positive is worthless, can only give to another AB positive but can receive all other kinds.

 

I'm A+, but when I enquired about donating blood a few years ago, the Chula Red Cross centre's questionnaire seemed somewhat concerned that I had been resident in the U.K. between 1984 and 1992. Given the diversity of diseases to be had in Asia, and my having been in Thailand since 1994, that rather surprised me, but I assume their concerns haven't gone away.

AAAAAH Yes - I would live to give blood even though I am O+.  Have been a lifelong blood donor in many countries -  no problems ever.  I am not on any medication and i am fit and healthy.

The  Thai Regional Blood Centre will not accept my blood as I lived in the Uk between the dates mentioned earlier.  Their reason is that I could have mad cow disease also known as nvCJD.

 

By extrapolation this means that only people under 23 years could give blood!!!!!

Crazy innit?
