Have a look at the name on practically every tourist bus anywhere that's been in use for the past few years, the chances are you will see the name of a Chinese manufacturer. Then ask yourself how many you have seen broken down or out of action. The ones you are specifically referring to have been successfully driven out of the compound, are functioning well and are being tested on routes as we speak. Im sure the execs at Volvo are shaking in their boots knowing that the Chinese are now considered a quality manufactiurer and soon may take over as the major EU bus supplier. Sorry they werent shaking, they were just pissing themselves laughing.
Johpa
The aircraft carrier has not been involved in any corruption allegations and although it is not being used for it's main designed purpose due to financial restraints it is far from useless, the ship has been involved in many disaster and emergency situations and rescues.A large barge could have been used to the same effect for far less cost.Happy Trails

You said that they are now considered a quality manufacturer, I didn't, and, whether Volvo are "shaking in their boots" or not, they already know that the number of Chinese buses on this area's roads far outnumber their own. You do know that Volvo manufactures some of their trucks and buses in China as well as in other countries, don't you? Has your perception of Volvo quality and Chinese lack of quality taken that into consideration?

Happy Trails No, a large barge (what?) couldn't have done the same job and the carrier wasn't commissioned for rescue/aid. It was commissioned as an aircraft carrier and then the Asian financial crisis affected it's status so it's cost doesn't come into it when humanitarian rescues are needed. For a "large barge" to be used, a "large barge" would have to be purchased at a considerable cost. "Happy Trails", what are they?

The Chinese then copy the same product in a nearby factory but are substandard.
timewilltell
What about looking at RR who instigated these commission payments in the first place. It was greed to obtain business & certainly approved by upper management. Why are RR going to confession now? Why did not the new CO of RR just say, From now on no" brown envelopes" & leave it at that???You are deranged if you think corruption payments are instigated by the companies rather than by the people in charge of the bidding in a country like Thailand where corruption is endemic through every institution and especially in the laws and their enforcement. Repeal the criminal defamation law and you might get people reporting the corruption that they see. It is everywhere.
