Body pulled from city canal December 30 now confirmed to belong to missing Japanese tourist

 

Thai forensic doctors have confirmed the body pulled from a city canal on December 30 last year belonged to that of the missing 22-year-old Japanese tourist Sonamu Tsuboi.

 

Confirmation was made at a press conference yesterday at the presence of Sonamu’s parents who flew in last week from Japan along with his girlfriend.

 

At the press conference Asst Prof  Dr Wisut Fongsiripaiboon, chief forensic doctor at Siriraj hospital said the body pulled from Bang Khor Laem canal which is connected to Chao Phraya river was identified as the missing Japanese’s body.

 

He said two tattoos on Mr Sonamu matched those on the body of the unidentified man pulled from the canal.

 

But he said it could not be confirm whether the Japanese tourist took his own life by jumping into the river, or he was pushed into the water, adding it needed more investigation by police.

 

The Japanese parents were satisfied with the confirmation yesterday and they have brought their son’s body out of the hospital’s mosque for funeral at a Thai temple.

 

They said they would take his ashes back to Japan this week for religious ceremony.
