Cabinet approves Phra That Phanom temple Unesco candidacy

 

BANGKOK, 25 January 2017 (NNT) – The Cabinet has approved the documents for Phra That Phanom temple's Unesco candidacy nomination, which will be submitted to the World Heritage Committee in the Republic of Poland in July. 

Culture Minister Weera Rojphotchanarat disclosed that the Cabinet’s meeting has approved the documents for Phra That Phanom temple's Unesco candidacy submission to be included on a tentative list, as the famous temple in Nakhon Phanom province was deemed to posses an outstanding universal value and met three of Unesco’s selection criteria from a total of ten.

The documents will be prepared before submission to the World Heritage Center in Paris, France. Phra That Phanom temple will be submitted for inclusion in the Unesco's tentative list before being forwarded in July 2017 to the World Heritage Committee's session in Krak?w, Poland. Phra That Phanom temple is can be considered as an ancient temple in the North Eastern region of Thailand and the central region of the Mekong basin. It has been worshiped by people from many nations for thousands of years. 

The temple's architectural design can be considered a great achievement for mankind, and has propelled civilization's pursuit of mastering settlement construction and is of great historical significance.
