PATTAYA: -- A 27 year old man has been charged with attempted rape after he went to see a woman in Pattaya he met through a chat room.

Ekachai Phimpha from Samut Prakarn denies the charge.

Police were called to a parking lot in North Pattaya Sai 3 yesterday where they found Ekachai with a head wound being pointed at by "Kob", 23, reports Daily News.

He had been attacked and then restrained by a "good Samaritan" before the cops arrived.

Kob (an assumed name) told police that she had chatted to Ekachai online for five days and they arranged to meet. But when he arrived he did not look like the picture on his profile and she was not interested anymore.

However she told the police that she took pity on him as he had come from another province to meet her so she net him stay one night.

Nothing happened between them, she said.

But next day he came back to her room and tried to rape her, she claimed, before the intervention of a man who kicked him in the head and made a citizen's arrest before the cops arrived.

Ekachai has been charged and detained.

He said some foreigners had previously married  Cambodian women illegally in Kandal province and took their wives abroad, but the women were later trafficked and sold into prostitution.

Perhaps the fundamental issue here is that women being trafficked and sold into prostitution is a protected profession not open to foreigners.
