webfact
400 baht for a spicy salad? Thai man shocked by street food price By Coconuts Bangkok BANGKOK: -- A Thai man was horrified to be charged THB400 for a single serving of mango spicy salad from a food stall at Huay Khwang Night Market. Facebook user Korathep Kudeengam posted a photo of a bag of mango spicy salad, locally known as “yum mamuang.” The astonished description said “Holy cow! Are you trying to kill someone with that price? THB400 for a spicy salad. That’s too much!” Another Facebook user commented that he also learned the hard way not to dine at that stall. He visited the market with a friend and ordered a mango yum from the same vendor. Thaiwrath
I think the vendor will soon be looking for a different venture, netizens are not going to let this one go.

trogers
The vendor is probably a foreigner (tang dao) and practicing dual pricing that was learnt from Thais.
zaphod reborn
The food at that market is notorious for being overpriced. Edited January 26, 2017 by zaphod reborn

Really, how likely is that? I am pretty sure one BKK person can tell another one.

Are you suggesting that every person from BKK shares physical traits that differ from everyone else in Thailand? I could not tell a person from Sydney if they were standing next to a person from Melbourne.

Empty that plastic bag and you may find the pack of item that costs Bt360, while the salad costs only Bt40... Catch my drift?
Briggsy
I see some live crabs in the shot. This is also an area popular with Chinese. Put those two together and whenever you get food with live ingredients aimed at the Chinese market, then the price is always high.

mike324
The poster said it has fresh seafood such as horscrab, prawns, oyster. So its not too far off, its not a regular yum dish. For a street stall, I would say 250-300 baht is more reasonable price for including fresh seafood.

I would have thought the order would then be called "Yum Talay". Edited January 26, 2017 by trogers
