BANGKOK: -- The Anti Corruption Organisation of Thailand yesterday proposed the prime minister to empower the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to expand its authority to question civilians and seek direct information from international agencies to escalate investigation of bribery scandals that engaged the country.

The proposal was raised at a seminar it hosted to raise public awareness of the controversial exposure of briberies paid to two Thai state enterprises by Rolls Royce.

Under the topic “No Rooms for Corrupt People in THAI, PTT, and Thailand over Rolls Royce Briberies”, ACOT director Yanyong Pongpanich proposed that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha invokes Section 44 of the interim constitution to empower the state  graft buster with authority to question civilians or non-government agencies and to seek direct information from international government agencies with no need to pass through the Office of the Attorney-General, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is a matter of time consuming.

This will enable the NACC to speed up investigation and bring the wringdoers to trial faster, he said.

I assume they approve having the NACC's funding re-instated.

"Graft-Buster".

Sounds like one of the easiest jobs in Thailand.

To ask help from international agencies now that is a new one. In most bribery scandals there usually is enough home grown evidence but the problem here seems to be to uncover it.

Yes it is time consuming but then depending on who is involved this could work in their favor. Love the term State Graft Buster. Has rather a solid? ring to it.
