BANGKOK: -- The government has tried to play down Transparency International’s 2016 Corruption Perception Index which put Thailand at 101st spot down from 76th spot a year earlier with 35 scores compared to 38 scores a year before.

Vice Minister Kobsak Futrakul and Prime Minister’s Office Minister advisor Natthaporn Jatusripitak jointly told a news conference on Thursday that the TI’s CPI was based on data from 13 indexes with four indexes concerning Thailand.

The four indexes which concern Thailand are IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2016, Political and Economic Risk Consultancy 2016, World Economic Forum Executive Opinion Survey 2016 and World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2016.

They said that there were ups and downs in Thailand’s scores in the four indexes.

For IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, Thailand scored 44 marks compared to 38 in 2015; 38 marks compared to 42 a year earlier for Political and Economic Risk Consultancy; 37 marks from 43 marks for World Economic Forum Executive Opinion Survey and 37 from 26 for World Justice Project Rule of Law Index.
