BANGKOK: -- Thailand and the United States will co-host the annual multilateral Exercise Cobra Gold military exercises in various areas throughout the Kingdom from February 14 to 24.

Exercise Cobra Gold, the largest multilateral military exercise in Asia, has taken place annually for more than 30 years. The exercises this year will bring together more than two dozen nations to address regional and global security challenges and promote international cooperation and stability within the region.

The exercise is intended to strengthen regional cooperation and collaboration, increase the ability of participating nations to work together on complex multilateral operations such as enhancing maritime security, preventing and mitigating emerging disease threats, and responding to large-scale natural disasters.

Finger pointing must be catching

"The exercises this year will bring together more than two dozen nations to address regional and global security challenges and promote international cooperation and stability within the region. "

Since when has US military presence promoted stability in any region?

With Thailand falling more and more into China's circle of sovereignty, I'd be ready to bet that this might be one of the very last times this exercice takes place.

I'm sure that the Chinese aren't happy with this, especially with who's at the command in the US now.

Or perhaps "Yo dude, why is your right pinky fingernail so long?"

Shameful.

No elections = no democratic country should participate.

Next years's exercise will commence on February 16th with the Chinese and will be named "Red Dog"!

Ummm....WWI, WWII, Korean war, etc.  There are many who would argue with your statement.  But yes, they've made some big mistakes over the years.  As has many other country's military presence.

Why do you think Chinese submarines were recently purchased instead of German ones?  Big brown bags comes to my mind.

Does anyone actually learn/gain anything from these exercises?

The kit remains broken, the troops remain untrained and the generals are too busy with politics.

:cheesy: ... yeah, wouldn't be a surprise at all ... damn, almost spit my coffee over the Schlepptop ...

50-50 split.

Thai military gets the "gold".

The U.S. gets the snake.

Pattaya area will be flooded with seamen again....:coffee1:

Do the powers-that-be let this happen still?

I'd think that this would be too politically incorrect these days.

5555 I hope the pumps on beach road work to remove the flood quickly.

Remember when the US used to park
their aircraft carrier off Pattaya bay
and ferry the troops to shore in smaller boats the bar girls lined the beach and gave them a very handsome (man) welcome...now I think they do most R+R in khon khean or Udon and the ship docks at Sattahip.
