snoop1130 Posted February 2, 2017 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Phuket garbage pile photos go viral on Social Media Eakkapop Thongtub PHUKET:-- Photos of a huge piles of rubbish mounting up at the end of Chalong Pier have started to go viral on Social Media, and so far no government office has taken responsibility for clearing the rubbish away. A reporter from The Phuket News visited the pier today (Feb 2) and said that as well as the rubbish being unsightly, it is also giving off a horrendous smell. That part is only used by a few fishing boats, not difficult to determine who is responsible.Some of those photos are of the garbage bins at the end of the pier. That *some* pictures show garbage bins (or really cages) doesn't make the bags of rubbish lying on the floor and smelling like hell go away. There should be proper (enclosed) bins and people who throw the rubbish on the ground should be fined. Again, this has been going on for years and years and it's not the only place in Phuket - or the whole country - that has this particular issue. BTW not even huge venues like Central get the idea of proper garbage disposal. So, people and companies can dump trash wherever they want, and it's the government's responsibility to haul it away? How'za 'bout the people who made the trash and left it where it is be held responsible for paying to have it hauled away- instead of throwing the expense onto the taxpayers who had nothing to do with it? But it's a shameful failure any way you want to look at it. I'm not even blaming the government fully for this. It's also the responsibility of the people to not dump their crap everywhere they like because they are too lazy to properly dispose of it. Can we agree on this? My garbage bin in front of the house on a major road in Rawai was emptied yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks! What do you call that? Fortunately I am somewhat an environmental conscious person to separate things as much as I can, but it was still overflowing as I could not close the lid completely. If you have a moment to spare, just have a look around and behind the Or Bor Tor building in Rawai, the pictures from Chalong look like a clean place compared to that open air dump.
