Dentist suggestions, Rayong

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone have suggestions for a good dentist in Rayong, please. A cap just came off and maybe I need implant for that and could consider capping adjacent teeth. Just very basic "cosmetic" dentistry.

Rayong Dental Center came up first on Google and would not be too far from my hotel. Is that a good bet?

Thanks.

That's a good bet. Or the Bangkok-Rayong Hospital has a decent dental team also.

I used to use a "Smile Dentist" place on the main rd in Rayong, but they started using dental students to do the work as cheap labour. Best avoided.

Thank you. Experience always helps a lot. I will try to get an appointment with the Bangkok Rayong Hospital. I just found an archived thread that suggested that, too.

The cap that came off was made in the Philippines. I don't want to start a row over differences between countries. But the possible need for medical and dental care as you get older is a big factor to stay in Thailand. The dental jobs I have had here have been perfect.

Hope the Bangkok-Rayong Hospital also considers making basic cosmetic dentistry of adjacent teeth.

Bangkok-Rayong hospital gave a very good and serious impression. Just had preliminary discussions and approx. prices given. Root canals are B.8000 + Crown B.16.000 = B.24.000. Implant+crown=B.80.000. I assume high quality work.

The closest I can compare to are good clinics in Phnom Penh. Prices there about 30-50% of the prices here.

I am not complaining. Just considering alternatives. Thailand has a developed economy and very high quality medicare.

Can definitely vouch for Bangkok Rayong Hospital myself on the basis of personal experience. Have tried other dentists in the past, but they tend to be "fly by nights" (i.e. no longer around when you next need to make an appointment).

I am sure you know the situation, I agree. But I have to continue looking.

The second day a specialist at Bangkok-Rayong examined me. He was very patient with my questions and also polite. But the conclusion was that my entire biting area had to be corrected. The only place to do it was clinics in Bangkok, and treatment could take 2 years.

To summarize I believe he is right if you desire the best possible result conceivable.

There is also a social situation to consider. Everyone except the dental assistants seemed to be OK with treating a foreigner that asks the doctor many questions. (I have lived in Asia >15 years and adapted some.)

My blood pressure was considered too high. I examined it last time 6 mo ago, it was OK. I had to talk myself out of further investigation very politely. There was no rest before the examination, I was sitting (not lying) in an uncomfortable position with the arm stretched out and tense, I am not sure the tourniquet was adapted to western size arms, also some mental pressure due to dental examination coming up.

But the dentist seemed to accept my very careful and modest motivation to continue examining my blood pressure on my own.

So now I have instead tried the most respectable dental clinic I could find in Rayong. Very serious doc. The specialist might squeeze me into his schedule tomorrow.

What is good with Thailand is that even "middle level" quality is good by most standards, no matter if it is medicare or hotel rooms.

Prices at this clinic are not much above good "Western style" clinics in Phnom Penh.

Thanks for all replies that came. I ended up at one of several clinics in central Rayong.
The doc fitted 4 ceramic crowns at B.8000 each. He also did minor fillings for free. To me the result seems very professional.

My teeth are not so good and I often travel. To choose dentist you can get help like this in forums. I think it is also helpful to peek through the windows of the clinic. If it looks well organized, clean and big I have had good experiences even though this way of choosing a clinic is very superficial.

And like I wrote before. In Thailand the chances of finding a good dentist are higher than in many other places.
