Police threaten to seize Benz Racing’s Lamboghini super car

BANGKOK: -- Narcotic police have threatened to seize the 20-million baht Lamboghini super car from car dealer Akkarakit Worarotecharoendet if he cannot come up with a written evidence or a loan contract to show that he had borrowed six million baht from a friend as a down payment for the luxurious car.

Mr Sirinya Sitthichai, secretary-general of the Office of Narcotic Control Board, said on Sunday that it was very unusual for Akkarakit, alias Benz Racing, to just take the loan from one of his friends, Natthapol Narkkham or Boy, without any loan contract, as he claimed.

He added that if Akkarakit could not prove how he managed to get hold of the super car, then the police would ask the ONCB to seize the car and the car dealer would face legal actions.

BANGKOK: -- THREE KEY agencies will discuss today possible links between an alleged Lao drug lord and Thai celebrities, including the son of a former famous politician.

“If the ongoing investigation delivers sufficient evidence, we will immediately take action. We will consider what we have now in our hands at our upcoming meeting,” Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NBS) deputy chief Pol Maj-General Pornchai Charoenwong said yesterday.

He was referring to the meeting of the NBS, the Office of Narcotics Control Board and the Anti-Money Laundering Office that will start at 10am today.

The best excuse he could come op with was the old ' I borrowed money from friend '

which is right up the with ' I won the lottery/casino '

When you run around with a 20 millions baht car in BKK, you should know that

it will get tongues wagging and eye bulging with envy and whispers of ' I wonder

where he got the money for it '  type of gossip.....

Ah, so is is this the precedent? If you have something expensive, you have to show how you bought it? Maybe the junta might be a good place to start. They are after all the self proclaimed bastions of honesty and integrity.

Criminals investigating criminals.

Confiscate it if he can't say his name three times real fast.

Yes you have to prove it all comes from a income that has been reported for tax payment purpose.

The more expensive , the bigger the potential fish. An indeed this guy can't show a contract about the loan so its a hit , not a miss

.............the son of a former famous politician.

Yes, let's get the politicians back in  power as soon as possible and restore democracy. Thailand is not functioning under military rule. Politicans care more about the people.  Hooray!

Sorry. For a lot of TV readers, please insert an apostrophe in the word "politicians"

Very hard to quantify.. Some of todays hyper hatches A45/RS3/Focus RS are quicker than a classic Lambo Muira or Ferrari GTO.. But the Lambo and the Ferrari are supercars the hatchbacks aren't even though they have "supercar performance"

Honda's original NSX is though of as a supercar, Not so sure about the GTR.

I usually see it referred to in car mags as " budget supercar or supercar killer"

Guess it's a bit like pornography.. "Hard to define, but you know it when you see it"

....which actually means that I can't prove where the money came from, which mean it probably wasn't made from the mundane world of legit business or old fashion honest work and savings.
The people are on the right track.  Either prove where the money came from of forfeit the car.  I've little sympathy for the super-rich and narcissistic especially in countries where corruption is the rule instead of the exception.

But, if you have a very rich friend whose money is 'legit' and he says he lent you it what's the problem?

According to another article in the Thai press "the friend" in question is in police custody and under investigation for drug related offences.. Guess borrowing undocumented money from a suspected drug trafficker is seen as suspicious.

Can't remember who said it, on the lines of :-

When you read your morning newspaper you can believe the date on the front, the rest of it take with a large pinch of salt.

So even if he did "borrow the money from a friend", that friend is under investigation for drug dealing.  This would mean that the car was purchased from proceeds of crime.  Therefore, he would still loose it as it would need to be confiscated.

I suppose that's a bit like borrowing money from banks in UK. Biggest criminal gangs in UK.

All this supercar pricing over here is just the result of the incredibly stupid tax applied to imported cars.

Another conspiracy theorist ? The World out to get you ? Do you post stuff about the Rothschilds on facebook ?

The dude in question  "Nattapon Nakkam" is in police custody. If you don't believe Thailands number two English language daily I suggest you call the police station and ask the cops.

Sold the 308 many years ago in UK. Looked good but the build quality was crap. Wipers would generally work when it wasn't raining. Interior bits worked loose and fell off etc.

I'll stick to Mercedes.

Least we agree on something :)

Lamborghini misspelling apart, how do these people come up with their nicknames?

Back in UK had a friend who was 5'2". He bought an Austin Westminster. Nickname became Two Cushion Billy. Only way he could see over/through the steering wheel.

Maybe they work on the same lines here.
