Assuming Thai Immigration is not gone completely nuts , the 3 VISA runs rule has been changed in the "90days on 180days period" rule. This to allow people that just spend week-ends (or short periods)in Thailand to enter the country more then 3 times each 180days, as long they do not exceed the 90 days limit.

But dumb Immigration officers did not consider that due to the overlay of "last day out" and "first day in" in VISA runs the three times in a row VISA runner actually stays in Thailand just 88 days, not 90. So should he show up for the fourth time, what will happen ? Will he be stamped another 30 days VISA ? Or will he get a shorter VISA with the days he actually still has to use (in this case a 2 days VISA :o )?

There has been no change in the rule - it has always been about 90 days not number of entries. Part days always count as a full day under immigration rules when making a day count.

What will happen after someone meets the 90 day total remains to be seen. I suspect the will not be allowed entry; as per the rules.

I suspect they will get a last 7 days authorisation,

only to allow them to pack their belongings and take their return plane... :o

interesting point. i hadn't thought of this before.

so you have a few days left in the 90 per 180 day cycle and show up at the border. do you get a solid 30 day stamp, a rejection, or a short time stamp?

and, even if you got a 30 day stamp what would happen if you were in country and your passport examined after the 90 day period were up, but before the entry stamp had expired? would you be illegal then or would the 30 day stamp carry weight?

the law says you can not stay more than 90 out of 180 on VOA, so presumably you could not get a new 30 day stamp.

as of now, no one knows. it may depend on the crossing point and the guard on duty.

interesting...
