Young Buddhists group urges Supreme Patriarch to defrock Dhammachayo

BANGKOK: -- THE YOUNG Buddhists Association of Thailand (YBAT) has urged the Supreme Patriarch to consider expelling the highly controversial Phra Dhammachayo from the monkhood.

 

Phra Dhammchayo, the honorary abbot of Dhammakaya Temple, is facing arrest warrants for money laundering. 

 

YBAT chairman Somporn Thepsittha, who also heads the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee on religions, arts, culture and tourism, said yesterday that the YBAT had submitted a petition to the Supreme Patriarch asking him to consider defrocking Phra Dhammachayo.

 

The current Supreme Patriarch, Somdet Phra Ariyawongsakhatayan (Ambhorn Ambharo), is the successor to Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara Sangharaja, who passed away in 2013.

Maybe he could also go in and make a citizen's arrest also. The DSI aren't going to do it so someone has to do. The DSI will wait round the corner while he goes in.

Poor little naive lambs: the Abbot clearly doesn't give a flying fornication about Buddhism so defrocking him will hurt his ego, but won't bother him too much. Better to ask the Supreme Patriach to ask the PM to get the bald prick arrested and thrown in jail.

I wonder how"young" he is? It does sound a bit like Ken Clarke being chairman of the Young Conservatives...

Defrock Dhammachayo ok, wont make any difference to him.

He will still wear the saffron robe, still think i am number 1 monk.

Remember the case of the monk with the Loui vitton bag?

He was defrocked still travelled the World in saffron robes.

Best idea I've heard in a long time. But do not just defrock him, throw him in jail for his crimes! The guy is a criminal in disguise.

 

Problem is, who has the "balls" to arrest him? It seems the DSI, Police and Army are all too scared to do anything. Far easier to arrest some pensioners playing bridge or throwing a man in jail for feeding fish!
