Cancer Specialist Dog Vet recommendations ??

MikaQ5

Recommended Posts

I have recently had my. Boxer dog diagnosed and surgically treated for a Grade 1 Mast Cell Tumour -

My local vet ( a very professional guy ) in Pattaya  has not offered me any other follow up treatments ,so I would be grateful if others could. Recommend  if there is any. specialist vet service I could take her too for. Additional advice and opinions re this. Matter

Thank you

if i was in your position why not give,KASETSART UNIVERSITY A PHONE AND ASK THEM IF THEY CAN RECOMEND SOMEONE.
they are noted to be the best in the country.
and ONLY the BEST will do.

Thank you -- I am guessing that this must be a teaching uni ? ( for Vets etc)

Yes I will definitely make contact / visit with them

Cheers

Just to update
I visited the Kasetsart University small animal clinic ( bkk) last week
A busy but Very efficient (and impressive ) hospital
There is a ticked queuing system ,you register as a first time patient and get your ticket - there is a very nice restaurant and fab pet store on-site to pass the time ( I went in the afternoon at 3 , which was too early for the evening session ,and was still out by. 7pm )
The vet spoke. good English ,went through. The case. With me ,sent her. To the xray dept ( which took all of 15 min )
The xrays are showing. Clear at present for. Any other masses ( thank God) ,and he booked me an appointment with an Oncologist within a week )

I was very impressed with my first visit ,Everybody speaks highly of this Thai hospital

(Thank you again for the suggestion Meatboy )

me and mrs.meat went through 18months of pure heartbreak with our boy,and 99.9% of it was man made.that was till we went to a small animal hospital outside korat, within 6weeks our boy came back to us,the most loving,a completly different dog who is enjoying his life to the full.all in all it only took 6visits and one of them was his yearly rabies ect.injection and the all clear report.

that was almost 12months ago and we cant thank ITTIVECH ANIMAL HOSPITAL enough.

Surgery over thank God, but have to wait a month for the results

Surgery day  was Very hands on,I was allowed to stay with MIKA as they prepped her ,(and a few other dogs  also on different tables around us -so it's unnerving from that point of view -yet it's then that your pet Needs you to stay for as long as possible -- any of us that has gone through any type of anesthesia type of surgery may understand what I mean

And as I said it's a  v busy but Very efficient

Animal Hospital

Yet I could have been taking a child to surgery -such was the experience

---The hospital is just so professionally run

It would be hard to distinguish it from  a regular hospital save from the patients lol -

- well it's not every day you find yourself sitting next to a beautiful  injured yet alert and  Very Curious Swan sitting in a tub bedside you at the pharmacy dept

To

Meeting the fully gowned and masked head surgeon beforehand about what would happen procedurally  and him taking the time to talk with me after the surgery had taken place

I can  certainly recommend the Kasetsart University Veterinarian Hospital  ( bkk ) most highly

Do you find it difficult to get your doggie to take the medicines ??
My own is a nightmare to give medicine too , the jaws are locked firmly and is a very stubborn animal

I mix it in the food ,but if any is found it's spat out ,and she won't eat food for maybe a day or more
Giving me murderous black looks --

--just when I am trying to get nutrition/protein etc in her

Hope all goes well with your own case

all the blood tests and medication he has had in the past 2.5yrs.he either lays down for his blood to be taken and the wife gives him the tabs,to which he will wag his tail when he see's her coming.he has always loved his food so if we hide a few tabs, mostly in some chicken or sausage.to boost their appitite after illness we started to give ours FERRIC PLUS K. allthough he doesnt need coaxing.

the last few days he is on fire again.

And I thought I had problems giving my dogs tablets!

Hiding it in food rarely worked on my dogs (never in the case of one dog) as they easily spot tablets just mixed in with food, and even hiding it in a lump of meat/cheese etc., they have an uncanny knack of finding the tablet and spitting it out.  Fortunately, they didn't then sulk for a day or so giving me murderous black looks!

Is it possible to grind up the tablets and mix them in with food she loves?  I haven't tried it myself, but the vet once suggested this option with some prescribed tablets.

Ah --That's what I'm doing at the moment
Reducing all to dust and mixing in with a bigger ,selection of food

I find cat food is the best for hiding the medicine lol --
But Christ the smell of Whiskas etc is rank

Still as long as I get the medicine in to her is what counts

as we are discussing the taking of medicines,we seem to have a problem with ours taking DOXY.

before [12months ago] he was on them for 5weeks taking over 400tabs,but this past 18days he has been taking them with his food and for some reason he is rejecting some that he can smell or taste hidden in his dinner.this has happened 3times and we have to give him 1 or 2 on their own,now comes the worried part 3times he has been sick, all his dinner has come up.in over 5yrs.he has never ever been sick, could it be dodgy DOXY.

THE WIFE IS ON HER WAY TO KHON KAEN.

as MIKAQ5 posted about the excellent facilites at KASETSART CLINIC,mrs meat took our boy to the main uni.in khon kaen.

as we have been going round in circles the past 2yrs.this is a must for any pet lover who is having the run around like us and have been getting nowhere.they have the most up to date equipment and very professional vets and yes they speak english.

well we have found out exactly what is wrong and not half of what we had been led to beleive.

What frustrates me the most is that you have posted more times that you finally found the good vet for your beloved one.

That is always the problem I am facing here. You think you have found a good vet, and suddenly it turns out he is not that good. Or, he is good, but he just made a mistake (what can happen)

We stay just with our good old vet. Not much equipment, but a lot of experience (what is not for sale). He is willing to go to our place. (we do not want to travel with our live stock once a year to the city for the the annual vaccinations.)

In fact I wished we should have the same quality vets as we had back home.... But Ok, I choose to live here.... so not much to complain.

Arjen.

And its impossible for many of us to travel to Bangkok with our pet(s), for various reasons .

After recently losing one of my dogs to T-cell lymphoma, horrifyingly another has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer and it was impossible for the entire tumour to be removed.

My vet was able to provide chemotherapy to slow down the T-cell lymphoma but is unable to provide radiation therapy - even if I was willing to put my dog through this.  However, he did ask whether I was prepared to take my dog with bladder cancer to Hua Hin or Bangkok to see an expert, in the hope that a further operation or radiation therapy might be possible.  Its not for various reasons, the most important of which is that it would put him (my dog) under too much stress as he's v frightened in cars etc and equally frightened away from home (apart from walks).

So I need to take back my first post on this thread, as clearly there are experts in Hua Hin and Bangkok.

our boy was found to carry the hepatoozon canis which is very rare from middle east of thailand but there are many cases turning up at kasetsart animal university.it was back in 2015 our boy was found to have it but the vacine was not freely available its the only known med.that has a chance of killing the parasites, its known as IMIDOCARB DIPROPIONATE [IMIZOL]

our boy at this time has had his first injection of imizol with another one in 14days time [a must]

also there is the E-CANIS present which he has to take PREDNISOLONE once again this is a steriod and must be reduced slowly,

ours has 6 after breakfast for 7days,then reduced to 3 for the next 7days.we only found out about this after 18months.

as it was MIKAQ5 that started this topic he too found that going to the best in thailand like us,is what our loved one deserve's.

its a pity that KASETSART UNI.doesnt have more clinics eg.samui,phuket.as they have the state of the art equipment.
