BANGKOK, 20 February 2017 (NNT) - The government is keen to list a popular tourist destination in Chiang Maj as a World Heritage Site.

Amidst myriad tourist destinations known to travelers, the Phar Chor Canyon or Grand Canyon of Thailand is one of the oldest and is believed to be millions of years old.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tanasak, recently led a team of local officials and executives from the Tourism Ministry to inspect the area in preparation for the proposal to list Pha Chor as a new World Heritage Site.

Gen. Thanasak said that Pha Chor Canyon represents invaluable natural beauty, which has been well-cherished.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that he has also asked the Tourism Authority of Thailand to combine interests with the Mae Wang National Park to work on a plan to develop a tourist route to connect it with other nearby destinations in order to attract more visitors.

What they mean is that they want Western money that will be spent 'imaginatively' to create and then maintain the park. In return when westerner's visit they will be expected to pay 1,000% more than Thais who haven't contributed anything to the park.

Georgetown Penang is also world heritage, i've never seen such a sad city before. All buildings are black of mould, most are just ruins, there's no sidewalk, it's all filthy and you walk along open drains on every street. NOTHING is painted and looks 200 years old unmaintained.

Guess it's all about money only...

Georgetown is a bit of a dump, but its Penange, so people go their for the beaches and seafood... or at least I do.

Chiang Mai is where people who want to live in Thailand on the cheap go to get away from the rising thermometers in Bangkok. Thailand and a under 30 degree temperature and be a welcome relief after a month of 40+ in Bangkok.

Chiang mai is hotter than bkk this week..And 40+ i can't remember it was that hot in our house.

The beaches on penang are not good for swimming, it's dirty water there. They all go for the streetart but that's just a drawing on a very ugly moulded house in an open drain street...nothing special..and streetfood there is also filthy....Thailand has the same on every street.

I 'll go to langkawi next time, hope it's better there.
