DPM warns 14 defying monks at Dhammakaya temple of arrest if not turning in to DSI

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said today that the 14 senior monks summoned by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will face arrest if they still ignore the summons.

Warning by Gen Prawit, also defence minister, came as the DSI tried to enter Dhammakaya temple via Gate 5 and 6 today but were resisted by hundreds of monks and followers of Phra Dhammachayo this morning.

Confrontation still continues at the two gates.

Gen Prawit said authorities would continue to search for the former abbot although there was unconfirmed report that he has already sneaked out.

He said authorities would follow the legal procedure and would try to locate him.

For the 14 monks, included Phra Dhammachayo, summoned by DSI to turn themselves in but still defy the summons, he made clear that they will face arrest if they still ignore the second summons.

Arrest warrant will be then issued if they still do not turn themselves in to the DSI, he said.

The DSI chief Pol Col Phaisit Wongmuang Sunday ordered 14 monks of Dhammakaya temple to report to him at the Border Patrol Police Region 1 head office within 6.00 pm yesterday.

Bet they are quaking in their flip flops

Push is coming to shove.  This is going to get interesting.

Arrest 1 then the s..t will hit the fan and all hell will break loose.

Interesting to see which side breaks first.

In an 'unspecified time' in the future these monks 'could possibly' be in deep, deep, deep trouble. They have been warned. Or not.

"Arrest warrant will be then issued if they still do not turn themselves into the DSI", he said.

They're not coming, same as before, they are taking not a bit of notice of your threats.

At least someone will get arrested. Don't get it, usually all it takes is a humvee, no warrant needed...

After the debacle of the last few days, I doubt they care.

They would be better advised to pack up and bide their time. This has the potential to become a flashpoint or a Waco style fiasco. I'm not saying don't arrest him but rather back off with the 3,500 troops and try a different tack. They would take the high moral ground and could spin it easily. But one suspects they are now painted into a corner and this might end badly.

Way to go Prawit you have stepped up your game going from a summons to a warning. Does a lashing with a huge wet noodle come next.

The junta has to play a cool game here it is religious people against the control of the army and it will be showed  world wide on social media it could dmmage thailand faces no more SMILES.

Perhaps all the junta want is get access to the money trail and recuperate the taxes \///// you know what is the meaning.

To me it's more like some idiots against some other idiots. But that's just me (a third kind of idiot)

Just arrest them -  they're quick enough when it suits them - no warrants court orders no nothing just arrested

At this temple there's been court orders warrants and nothing

get off your arse - do your job and bloody arrest them

There will be a lot of faking what ever to show on social media so the junta should stop anyone with camera and pictures taking phone and do the job they are there for.

The media will tarnish Thailand over this one.

It seems like this has been going on for a loong time. When will they stop warning them and actually do something about it.!!!!

50 bhat fine and banish them to a less opulent temple for a couple of weeks.

'You've had ten warnings already, this is definitely the last one.'
