BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said today that the 14 senior monks summoned by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will face arrest if they still ignore the summons.

Warning by Gen Prawit, also defence minister, came as the DSI tried to enter Dhammakaya temple via Gate 5 and 6 today but were resisted by hundreds of monks and followers of Phra Dhammachayo this morning.

Confrontation still continues at the two gates.

Gen Prawit said authorities would continue to search for the former abbot although there was unconfirmed report that he has already sneaked out.

He said authorities would follow the legal procedure and would try to locate him.

For the 14 monks, included Phra Dhammachayo, summoned by DSI to turn themselves in but still defy the summons, he made clear that they will face arrest if they still ignore the second summons.

Arrest warrant will be then issued if they still do not turn themselves in to the DSI, he said.

The DSI chief Pol Col Phaisit Wongmuang Sunday ordered 14 monks of Dhammakaya temple to report to him at the Border Patrol Police Region 1 head office within 6.00 pm yesterday.

At least someone will get arrested. Don't get it, usually all it takes is a humvee, no warrant needed...

They would be better advised to pack up and bide their time. This has the potential to become a flashpoint or a Waco style fiasco. I'm not saying don't arrest him but rather back off with the 3,500 troops and try a different tack. They would take the high moral ground and could spin it easily. But one suspects they are now painted into a corner and this might end badly.
