Green Office Award granted to 20 eco-friendly agencies

BANGKOK, 21 February 2017 (NNT) – Twenty agencies have been recognized by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion with the annual Green Office Award.

Director-General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion Sakol Tinagul chaired the presentation of the Green Office Award 2016 to agencies that met the criteria. This year, there were 20 winners out of 85 applicants from across the country. Among the recipients of the Gold Award were Naresuan University and Pong Subdistrict Municipality in Phayao while those winning the Silver Award included the Phitsanulok Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment.

The award is aimed at encouraging office workers to get involved in environmental conservation by making use of eco-friendly resources, opting for recyclable materials and sorting garbage, for instance. Through the award, the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion is hopeful that greenhouse gas emissions in Thailand will be reduced by 20-25 percent.

The Green Office Award is open to both public and private agencies as well as educational institutes. Since its inception, the award has been bestowed on 189 winners.
