BANGKOK: -- Some soldiers were seen guarding around the Government House compound on Tuesday, when the Cabinet was set to reconsider a fate of a coal-fired power plant in Krabi.

The soldiers, saying they were from the first infantry battalion, would not tell why they were ordered to guard the compound, but an informed source said that local protesters from Krabi may travel to the Government House again to pressure the Cabinet to make decision against the controversial project.

Protect against the nasty, nasty coal plant protesters :ph34r:

Disappointed. Thought it was the beginning of the next coup.

This Coup will last as long as all the big guys are getting there money Wish they could report where the hell did the PM get all his money from TIT

I'm glad our hard-earned tax money is going to pay the salaries of those protecting the government against its enemies--the people of Thailand and their opinions.

They should consider changing their PR-Agency. Troops around a government house are just a sign the rulers live in fear of the people they rule. What comes next? Hiding behind barbed wire, sandbags and a death strip as visual signs of a functional democracy (a government of the people, by the people, for the people, that is) ?

Hasn't the PM already stated that the coal plant is definitely going to happen? Silly to just come out and refuse to budge in nothing more than an ego boost. These protesters really don't want this plant and for a very good reason. This could turn ugly unless the PM learns how to be a politician and start acting with diplomacy.

He can act exactly as he wants, he gave himself the power to do so.

At least for the time being.

Get the feeling many things are now snowballing to something 'coup-esque'?

A leader of the recent protest against a coal-fired power plant has urged a high ranking general to stage a coup against the ruling junta if it does not keep its promise to postpone the power plant project.

Why use troops????

It should be the job of the police to guard government buildings.

Maybe they are scared other high ranking soldiers are wanting a slice of the cake.

Last time I remembered, the police are receiving training using water pipes to catch snakes. Soon they will be trained to mow your lawn too. It's called "Serving the public"

“Dear ‘Daeng’ (Apirat’s nickname), I believe you’re a soldier, a soldier of the King. If the junta betrays the people and the nation, you will not let it remain in power and keep ruining the country, will you? You will not disappoint the people, right?” read Veera’s post.

That is really hot...  and ballsy
