PATHUM THANI — Wearing a facemask and clutching a rucksack, Umavadee Mitkul said she was camping inside Wat Dhammakaya with thousands of with her fellow worshipers because she wants to protect what’s rightfully hers from the authorities.

“Every baht that made the temple was from our pockets,” Umavadee said on Monday afternoon. “So we are here to protect what our own money has built.”

How about the whole rest of the country. That is yours also.

I think the "stop destroying buddhism" is pretty funny....

Well said.

Perhaps the authorities should brandish a few banners on their own, saying, for example: "Stop sheltering an accused criminal!", "Even Buddhists must obey the law of the land", "Wat Dhammakaya is NOT a country within the country - why does it act as such?", "Aggressive behavior is un-Buddhist", "Obstructing justice is a crime and erodes accrued merit points", "Obscenely wealthy temples destroy Buddhist values", etc.

Or even better: Just take a cue from what the North and South Koreans are doing along the DMZ. Surround the temple grounds with huge loudspeakers and start constantly blaring Prayuth Chan-o-cha speeches. That should drive them insane within a few hours and they'll leave voluntarily.

Hmm, can you have both?

“They spent three days searching already. They couldn’t find him, but they still don’t give up,” the woman said. “They want to overthrow Dhammakaya.”

She said they want to steal the eight statues of Dhammakaya founder Luang Pu Sodh Candasaro, each of which is said to be made from a ton of pure gold.

8 tons X 2000 pounds per ton X 16 ounces per pound X $1230.00 per ounce =

$314,880,000 USD

there is a difference with troy ounces but you get the idea.

At least the treasury will be replenished. Briefly.

"...defenders say morale and mistrust run high..."

Should read, "...offenders say morale and mistrust run high..."

As for the comment by Ms Umavadee Mitkul (in the Khaosod English article) that “Every baht that made the temple was from our pockets...So we are here to protect what our own money has built", one wonders whether she also considers this includes the ฿1.45 billion the DSI alleges was embezzled from the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative ??? (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/aec/30288778).

Maybe, it's time the whole  Dhammakaya Foundation made a hasty exit from the country ???

Yes a total waste. I am all for a strong military, but the last thing Thailand needs is more military. Maybe a real coast guard and search and rescue.

I wonder how many REAL English teachers this would hire?

How do many believe in this Shit is amazing o wait Amazing Thailand. TIT

Somebody is obviously winding these people up - who is it?

I believe the woman quoted realizes that she has be scammed but to save face will not admit it. She uses the term investment well lady anywhere else its called a Ponzi scheme.

I knew there had to be some incentive for the BIB to suddenly rush in well not so suddenly but you get my drift. It would take 3500 to move that kind of tonnage.

Just the leader I am afraid the foundation was left holding the bag. Yes the credit union is the prime motive but the little people with almost nothing care little for the credit union. Besides their beliefs have been primed.
